Problems with my install at my local shop

hey guys i went to my local install shop after bad stories from people. i went to this place and i bought a 10w3 sub from them for 180 bucks plus a box and then all that. it took them a total of like 4 hours to do a sub and amp install!!!! i have a jl amp 300/4 i had it from before. the problem is that after it was all said and done they came out and said it wasnt hitting hard at all. the amp was not hitting the sub at all. i sub was like not doing anything. they said the problem was the amp because they used a 10w1 just to see if it was the amp and yes it was the sub was still no hitting hard enough. whats the problem? they said it was caused by my accident earlier from before.what do you guys think?

You could measure output from each of the terminals but I would check a few things first...
start with the basics...do you have other speakers running off the amp or is it just the sub? Check your HU settings. Is the amp properly powering on? Fuses? What resistance is the sub showing your amp? Is a dual voice coil? You want to see whether they wired the voice coils in series or parallel. Check your filter settings, check your gains. Hmmm....also you could check to see if they are bridging channels and make sure that if they are bringing the sub signal in mono that they are using a Y adapter into the left and right channels for that input...otherwise you are cutting your input signal in half.

If you know that you don't have a power problem (proper voltage from the vehicle, good ground), if the sub is wired correctly and all settings seem to be correct...then I think you can conclude that the amp is damaged. That amp should be all solid state but depending on how hard you got hit, it's possible that you broke something.

Good luck.

I wouldn't say they're doing a bad job or anything.. I know most places around here are starting to deny people installs unless they purchase a new amp and sub so they don't spend 4 hours troubleshooting when the problem is the used equipment..

If they spent 4 hours on it I wouldn't complain too much, it looks like they tried.. Especially if the amp was in a accident..

I would do what harjar has suggested as a starting point.. Or find a buddy and swap amps to make sure they installed everything properly..
