Problem with rear speakers?

This weekend i was driving on the Highway at about 80 mph and with all 4 windows down. I had my stereo volume at about 20/21 playing a CD when I heard a huge poping or snapping sound (which i assumed was coming from the rear 6x9's) whenever I was listening to a song with good bass. At first it scared the crap out of me. I eventually had to lower the volume, or tune the bass on the headset down to 0 so that the popping or snapping sound wouldn't happen. The sound, sounds like the cracking of a whip.

My question is this, is it b/c the speakers aren't very good and i'm pushing them to the limit? or is there something else the matter here?

I think you're hitting the speaker's limits. I've experienced my 6x9s clipping as well, also on a song with a lot of bass. Had to turn down the bass to avoid it. Time to swap them out.

Is it possible that there's something touching the speaker when it's played loud? It might sound stupid but I was driving around for a week and I kept hearing buzzing coming from the rear 6x9's but only when I turned the volume up. After getting annoyed I finally opened the trunk and there was piece of paper stuck in the speaker and it only rattled when the cone was at full excursion.

sounds like you should upgrade all your interior speakers and replace the stock amp.

Your speaker is blown. That's where the distortion sound comes from. I'm very sure of it. I know my audio really well !

If it is a blown speaker, it should be covered under warranty.

I try to upgrade speakes when I can. Factory speakers are cost effective. You do realize that you burn less gas at 80 with the windows up and the AC on than with the windows down don't you??? Wind resistance eats up HP

By cost affective (not eff) they put in what does the job at the best cost for them and not the what is best for the sytem and us owners.
Just trying to "get" 80 mph with all 4 windows down - then the volume has to go up a lot. Roll up the windows and hear the sounds or get pummelled by the wind - hey wind feels nice, I kinda wanted a convertible - but the wind resistance takes more horse power than running the air with the windows up and the audio sounds much better too without taxing it. Most volume past 1/2 can interject some distortion
Question for ya, Do you know what size speakers will fit in the doors. I put Boston Acoustics in my GSR and had Infinity 3 ways in my '87 Integra. The TSX system is a little bit "colored" a bit boingy if you know what I mean.
