and then? you're gonna add a center speaker to make it worth the ordeal? I've heard of people tapping into the speaker level outputs with a line out converter to get yourself some line level inputs for the decoder. or maybe if your decoder takes speaker level inputs, then you can tap directly. I'd like to see how you set up that center speaker in your car to get your center channel.
Adding Dolby Digital / DTS to factory stereo can be difficult. What you need are the low level L&R outputs from your Bose factory head unit. Feed that into a Dolby Digital / DTS decoder, like Panasonics CY-AC300 as analog L&R input or Pioneer AVM-P9000R* or Clarion DVS9755z combo DVD player/w DD/DTS decoder. The 4 channel low level outputs then go back into your Bose amplifier, along with the new subwoofer and center channel output into a new amplifier.
* The Pioneer AVM-P9000R would work best with AVX-P7000 or AVX-P7000CD replacing your factory head unit. This unit also does not require to be connected back into your bose amplifier (all amps are built in). Think of this more like a complete stereo replacement.
Hope this helps. If your really considering a 5.1 setup, I'll help you further by describing the benifits and pro/cons of each of these units. I own all 3 of these models.
