Polk DX6 replacement
Polk DX6 replacement
If you're having a hard time finding the Polk DX6 speakers, I've found a replacement that I like quite a bit better.
They have almost the exact same footprint, so the same ease of install as the DX6, and don't sound as harsh (to me) in the mid -upper midrange.
The speakers? Image Dynamics CTX6 coaxials. I just pulled my Polks and installed the IDs. It took longer to pull of the door panels than to swap out the speakers. As I previously stated, the footprint of the speakers is remarkably similar.
I reused the original weatherstripping/cut-up stock speaker mounting bracket with no fuss whatsoever (see my mods page).
I have to admit that the Polks are "louder" than the IDs...BUT it's in the mid - upper midrange (around 2 - 4 KHz or so) and was driving me nuts trying to equalize it.
After getting the CTX6s in, I can now breathe a sigh of relief from trying to dial in my system. It all came together as soon as I listened to them.
I have to admit that I have a HUGE ID bias so YMMV. However, if you're looking for a 6.5 coax that's as easy to fit as the Polk DX6 now you know of some.
I got mine from www.mmxpress.com for $110.
I'm very happy with them. I now have an entire ID speaker system!
I'm stoked.

You got it backwards...
the polks play louder at the same volume output of the receiver than the ID's.
There is no comparison between the Polks and the blose. However, I haven't done a one to one comparison. Since I never installed the Polks in with the stock HU, I couldn't honestly tell you.
Southbound is the man concerning the Polks. He has posted MANY times about the differences between the stocks and the Polks. Do a search using his name and be prepared to do a lot of reading!!

so...do you do the same stuff as the dx6 instructions with the resitor for the highs? i'm just learning about all of this, but have decided after a week of ownership that i probably want to do this upgrade.
