Please Help! HID Unit Replacement

My 2003 CL's driver-side headlight went out and I figured out that the ballast is bad. I searched online for a replacement, and was shocked by the price. The cheapest one I can find ask for 200 bucks, and it is a used one!

Then I searched more threads for solutions and came up with the idea to replace the original HID unit with some HIDEXTRA kit. As I know very little about the electronic thing in cars, I want to ask the following a few questions and hope someone can kindly answer them.

1. Is there any risk that the new HID unit will cause problem to the electronic system of the car?

2. Do I need to rewire any wires other than the headlight wires? Do I need to replace the fuse in addition?

3. Most threads mention to seal the holes that are left over on the h/l housing after DIY, why is that?

I will really appreciate the answer for any of these questions. And please leave any suggestion that you think will help.

Thanks!

I am in the same boat. I can get a ballast quickly, but it's $450! I will pay if I have to, but I saw the same kit you are talking about. I have the same question you do. I want to maintain the awesome lighting but I don't want to go broke. Let me know how it goes if you switch over.

I'm really new here but just picked up a 2003 CL. My plans include switching the ballasts over and retrofitting my headlights with projectors once I can find an extra set of assemblies to work it.

Though I'm new to the CL, I will say the headlight assembly shares a lot of similarities to my 02 Accord Coupe's, and I know number people that have been able to "add" HID with projectors to those cars without more than rewiring the headlight. The trick there is to add a relay so power doesn't overload the switch, but I would almost be sure the CL's are already capable of handling the power draw since they have stock HID's.

Well, since I didn't have time to figure out an alternative since this is my daily driver, I found a new ballast at Delray Acura for $357 shipped. I'm going to install it this afternoon. If for some strange reason I lose the drivers side ballast any time soon, I am going to keep reading to see if anyone has a successful alternative.
