PICS: Installed the pioneer AVIC-N1 and the Kenwood amp

Finally after 2 days and 14 hours of work, the car is finally finished. lots of custom work was put into it and at the end it is very damn clean.
What was done, here it is.
Custom mounted amp in the trunk
Custom made kit for the avic. first we used the metra kit which i hated because the place where the avic goes in the metra kit is on top so when the screen comes out it would cover half of the stock navi screen. So they took the metra kit, cut it and made the insert of the avic at the bottom so now when the screen comes out it is perfectly lined underneath the stock navi screen.
Got the steering wheel controls installed
Put the voice microphone for the navi on the top left hand side of the driver.
Custom mounted rca input in the cigeratte lighter.
custom mounted hardwired ac adapter underneath the glove box.
hardwired the radar detector

Oh and in order to fit the avic at the bottom of that kit, the shop had to cut some of the mounting parts thats in the cls where the stock 6 disc changer goes.

Here is a pic with the normal metra kit with the avic. as you can see the stock navi screen is half covered and it looks like shit.

Why not just convert the stock navi to play DVDs and get an MP3 jukebox?? Why have 2 navi's and 2 screens

Because, you cant do both at the same time. If you convert the stock screen to dvd player, you have to switch between dvd and navi screen manually. i would rather have 2 different sources with their own screens so they are independent of each other doing their own thing

The navi on this thing kicks ass. It calculates routes about 5 times faster then the stock navi and their are shit load of options, from various views to routes to address's and not to mention about a shit load of POI's. Took about 2 hours today playing with it and i still have lots to learn about the system. Now, it would be cool if the vehicle dynamics on this thing would measure 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Oh well.

WOW
That is awesome. I love it how you got the aftermarket screen to flush right underneath the stock navi screen. So both screen are totally visible from any angle. cool. how much did that cost to do that with the metra kit

Also, the RCA input. How hard was it to do that?

The RCA input was the second hardest thing to do in that setup. Because when you take that entire part out, there are 2 parts that are combined into one and we couldnt seperate them. So it was a bitch to get the rca wires in there. required some drilling and lots of scratches.

The input from that rca is connectd to the brain which is loacted underneath the front passenger seat. Its basically an extension of that input from the brain

Hahaha, yup, didnt know what to do with it so threw it back in after it was installed. See now that little part has 2 functions. One is the rca input housing and the other is the change holder.

I really wanted to put it in the rear armrest but once i found out the cost, i decided to drop it. So now the ps2 in my car just goes anyplace where there is space. But the best place where it is taken out eaisly is underneath the drivers seat. Unless anyone out there have any better ideas where i can stick the ps2. I tried sticking it in the glove box. Didnt work. Cant even extend the glove box either because there is the heater stuff right behind it.

Another question please. Why did you decide to put the ir sensor of the steering wheel control where you did?

I was debating where to put the sensor. I tried around the Avic and other places around the custom kit. none of these places were good, because the steering wheel controls was not working very good. I guess where the dash is, it was hard for the ir sensor to sense what i was doing with the steering wheel controls. So at the end, we started fooling around the shifter area and found that at the bottom of the shifter on the left hand side was the best place to put the sensor. Now everytime i touch the steering wheel controls, the sensor picks it up right away.

Damn...I forgot to mention something to you on the phone...instead of the empty space, why not fabricate the stock non-navi slider so you can at least put your business cards in there (rather than having empty space). Can you at least put CD cases in there all flush?

Then again...who cares if you're going to tear that thing down in a few months anyways.

Good idea, i'll consider that. But no more cd's bro. Its all about dvd's. I am in a process of making a dvd mp3 disc with 35 albums in it. Beats the hell out of carrying around a case with 25 cd's when you can carry one dvd with all those albums in it, customized to you likying.

I will talk to my shop tomorrow about everything that we have discussed today and i will get in touch with you about that custom kit tomorrow. No worries bro, it will be done and it will look awesome and definitly cheeper than what streeteffectz has quoted you because they gave me the same quote that they gave you. Thats why i decided to shop around a bit more to get this thing done and i could not have been happier.

There is no problem with the amp and it is best for what i wanted because i dont turn my system up very high. if you want to really blast the hell out of your system, i would go with something else. But the quality, the warrenty and for the price, this amp is very sufficient.

I Really appreciate it.. Let them know that there could be alot more business there way if they can move on the price.. I wouldn't mind paying $150 but $210 just seems pretty steep..

If his shop can't budge on price or anything I will keep shopping and if I find somewhere I will have them make 2 and send one your way.. If at worst I will spend $200 on kits and equipment to make these and then supply them to people on here so everyone isn't getting raped..

Sorry for that later reply. The avic N1 is the best unit out there in my opinion. The navi on it kicks ass and it blows the stock navi away clearly out of the water. I actually use it more now then the stock navi just because of its better capabilities. I highly recommend this unit to anyone who wants a navi system in their car and a dvd player.

This is exactly what I want in my CL-S. It has everything I would need. I know a guy at Tweeter that can get it for $1K, but I'm saving up to move out in September. Damn it! That shit is hot to def!

U got a pic of the steering wheels controls?
