Original Speakers Change?

I was wondering I have a system in my car that sounds good and added tweeters but was wondering if the stock speakers are able to be changed and if so to wahat. Thanks

Sure, you can change them. You'll find many mixed reviews here however on what to change them to. Due to the odd impedance of the factory system, changing the speakers could, in fact, make the overall system sound worse. You say you added tweeters.....did you swap out the factory one, or just added these to the system, and if so, where? If you are looking to improve the sound quality overall, you might be better off changing the headunit to give a little more power to the system.

I love the factory radio b/c of the in dash cd changer. I want to try to stay away from removing the unit. The tweeters are placed in the posts on the sides of the windshield and also on the posts of the back window. I will hope to have pics up tonight of it.

Derrick had bad luck with retaining the OE HU, but I am an eternal optimist (actually, I have other reasons to think that it can be done).

What I would do if it were my car would be to retain the OE head unit, but bypass the Bose EQ and amp, and add a new aftermarket amp and speakers.

If I recall the 03 TL has 6" in the F door, 6x9 in the rear deck, and tweets in the mirror sails?

Let's come up with a budget that you feel OK with. You have to determine if you are a do-it-yourselfer or you want to pay to have it done. You have to decide if you want a woofer box in the trunk or not (I don't, and you can attain very good sound without one, but there is a type of bass response that requires it. If you listen to a lot of bass-heavy rap and hip-hop, for example, you may want to consider it).

Make those decisions and I will recommend some components and explain why I would use each : )

OK, you added tweeters about 8" from your head in the "A" pillars, and about 6" from a R passenger's head in the "C" pillars? Is that the takeaway?

I did get it to work--the trick is to solder rca connectors on the preamp coming out of the oem headunit. No point in doing it if you're going to run it back into the headunit for amplification, or if you're going to try to keep the stock sub. If you keep the stock hu, you really need to replace everything else. Ditto for upgrading the oem speakers--don't bother unless you're going to install an amp. See my sticky thread for info and links on this.

I didn't really have bad luck, I just couldn't make up my mind what I really wanted to do--didn't plan my system in advance and learned everything the hard way. If you design a system with an amp, new speakers, and a new sub, you can make it sound very good with the stock headunit. (And with a blitzsafe adapter you can even control a cd changer in the trunk with it, and have an extra aux in for ipod/satellite/etc.)

OK, thanks for the detailed correction, sorry I got that screwed up.

Mike, I would be happy to suggest what I think would sound good, but you gotta know IMO that those tweeters are not part of a good-sounding speaker system. sorry, but there it is... Looks like a good install job, and certainly a lot of hard work.
