old school lanzar optidrive vs audiobahn
hey guys, i want opinions on some amps here. i'm trying to convince someone to get a 6 channel lanzar optidrive 6 channel amp instead of 2 audiobahn amps(2 and a 4 channel) any opinions?
btw the lanzar does 100 watts rms at 4 ohms x 6 and is handmade in usa
the audiobahns do 50x4 at 4 ohms and the other one does 100 x 2 at 4 ohms
this shall be interesting...

As I understand it, the old lanzar optidrive was made by zed audio, same makers of old hifonics, autotek, and some others.
Solid amps, fully regulated, beefy power supplies. They blow audiobahn crap away.

I'm a beleiver in keeping things simple. I'd go with the 6 channel model. It's basically 3 (2) channel amps in one chassis. You'll only need one amplifier wire kit to install the 6 channel amp. (Less chance for system noise to sneak in that way). The chassis of the 6 channel may be smaller than multiple amps, less weight, and all signal processing built into one chassis.

its quite a nice 6 channel amp. i don't like audiobahn that much, but my friend likes to have "newer" equipment. It is however, over 2 feet long, but who cares, right? it does an honest 100 watts rms by 6 channels. where as the audiobahns do 50x4 and 100x2. The lanzar is old school and is made in usa by zed audio. the audiobahns are made in korea, by unknown child laborers. btw, its a straight up amp. no built in processing or xover networks.

After the company failed and was sold, amps were still sold with the Opti label but were pretty much offshore junk. Dunno about Audiobahn but it can't be much worse than the later Lanzar stuff.

if i remember correctly, the guy who owned lanzar Ron Kovner(?) founded Kove Audio after Lanzar went under. they have some interesting amps and eq's (one that looks like a pg eq215ix clone). their amps were reviewed a couple of years ago by the canadian magazine performance auto and sound. i heard one of their demo vans maybe 8 years ago. total spl, no sq. haven't heard any of their later stuff. jps

i heard the old opti lanzers were very good amps, before they sold the company to pyramid or something, that is known for making very cheap amps.
i have never personally used one, but i remember them having a very good reputation. Plus i don't trust audiobahn that seems more concerned w/ making every possible thing they make chrome, instead of being well made.
but of course it always depends on the condition. Amps don't last forever, and if the opti has been pushed hard for long periods of time, while the audiobahns are brand new, it would be tough call.
