Hey guys. I've been looking around to get an AVIC N1 installed in my TSX for the better part of a month now. I've gone to three different reputable places and they all take one look at the dash and tell me they can't touch it.

Allegedly the plastic in the OE head is molded into the vents, for one, and the other thing is that the OE head is on a backplane board with the environmental controls and everything else so it can't be modded easily. And there isn't a kit out there to adapt it into the dash either. The same thing goes for the Alpine or Fujitsu units, which I have also looked into purchasing.

Is this true or are they full of crap? I guess I just find it hard to believe that Pioneer, Alpine or Fujitsu wouldn't make a facade for their products to fit such a popular vehicle.

 

Dude, there are posts and posts and posts in here of non-nav TSX 's with the AVIC-N1. I wouldn't have installed them that way, but they are in and they work.

Decide if that look is cool with you, print the pics, and then take them to a good installer and say here is where I want it and I'll sign on paper before hand that it will be like this...


I thought you had seen these pics when you broached the subject! The OE HU stays where it is...

There is another user Abrams who has an install that's in the same spot but with a different mount. Let me know if you have questions. The N2 is coming out soon too...so you might wanna wait for that!

 

Never saw ones in the TSX though so I wasn't sure. Why none of the installers in my area have any idea how to do it is beyond me.

IMO. I think you should just get the Acura mp3 attachment kit. They are gonna charge an arm and a leg for the same type of install I got. It requires custom cutting to make it look OEM, whereas if you get the Acura kit, it will just snap into place without any fitment/cosmetic issues.

Hope this helps man....also the Avic-N2 and the Avic-D1 are also coming out, so I'm not sure if you want to wait for those. Maybe when they come out this will help drive the cost of the N1 down.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I'm planning on installing my Avic N2 on my 04' TSX. I was wondering, in order to install this unit besides using a SNHOND3 through the AUX/RCA's, would this work:

Of course, if this works, the OEM unit would no longer be used. As for using the Avic N2 while driving, I know the mod needed to make this work but does the parking brake need to be grounded for it to work? Also read about the VSS wire or something. Where are these located?
