Newbie: 03 TL headunit wiring

Hi everyone,

So I've gone through most of the posts I could find with no luck.

My original headunit went south (CD errors) so I bought a used one thinking easy switch....how wrong was I to think that both would have the same wiring harness sockets....

The original headunit has 3 harness sockets while the new one only 2 and the smaller ones don't match up (original has a 14 pin socket while the new headunit has a 12 pin socket). So...the speaker harness plugs in just fine but the Bose amp harness does not fit. The end result is that I only get faint sound (no amp).

Any suggestions on what I should do? Will an aftermarket radio harness solve the problem or do I need to change the amp harness to a 12 pin?

Thanks,

Bart

you can look up at the electrical schematics for both cars and just match up the wires. If you're electronically inclined, this should be a piece of cake. You can also buy the pluggs of ebay for the stock harness and another one for the headunit and solder the wires together, this way you won't have to cut original wires and it will be a plug and play.

Someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but i do believe the 99-01 TL's have different radios than the 02-03's.

It sounds like he bought another stock radio. Problem is it sounds like he got the CL radio which is NOT compatible with the TL.
