New system...with a problem
Hey everyone
I just got a new system put in my trunk (2 10's and an amp in a ported box). I'll take pics of it later. They sound great, but i have a problem.
I bought my car used and the previous owner had a sub in his car, so he had the power cable, ground cable, and the really thin on/off-switch-cable thing already installed, making my job a lot easier. Now, i hooked everything up, sounded great. When i turned off my HU (stock) everything went quiet, like usual, but only for like 1 sec. Then the subs would just turn on and play continuously, no song, just booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom, non-stop. I'm assuming, using common-sense, that the switch cable wasn't installed properly or something, but is there another explanation possible?

The remote wire is connected to something that doesn't turn off with the car. Your battery will drain [after a while] if you don't fix it.
Go to auto zone, pick up some remote wire (only like 3 bucks for like 30 ft) and run it from your amp turn on to your HU turn on (blue with white stripes usually)

iirc, you can get to it where the stock amp is [behind the center cubby].
if someone else can chime in, i'm pretty sure it's the blue/white stripes, but can somebody else verify?

I'm kind of worried now...i dont want my battery to drain. However, when i turn off the car, the LED light on the amp that shows it's on/off status is off. But is it still drinking my battery? ahhh! i can't even trace where the previous owner hooked up the blue wire, either. Should I just buy a new remote wire?

ground? i'll check that. if the ground is pinched, this might happen?
Some more descriptions:
1) when i turn off the head unit, the subs turn on and hit continuously, nonstop, just a steady boooooooooooooooooom.
2) when i turn off my CAR, it does this too now. However, it only lasts until i open my car door. peculiar, knowing the fact that the battery runs and you can roll up windows and close the sunroof after taking out the key for a short amount of time, or until the door opens up.
3) when i put my key in the drivers side door to roll up all the windows at once, it does this for the short amount of time required to roll up all the windows.
Overall, whenever the battery is running, my amp is on and stuff. I need help :/
It's kinda bugging me. uncald4, you're like the ultimate sound guy on this forum, i'm glad you responded, thanks. Do you still think it's the ground?

Yeah, anything wrong with hooking the amps up to "ACC" power instead of the HU's turn-on wire?
I'm using mercman's cable and if my amps are off, the first few seconds of my voice guidance get cut off while the amp is turning on. If the amp were on when the car was on I wouldnt have this problem, but dont want to have any other issues.

OK i had the same issue when my system was first installed.

Do you still have the stock radio or is it aftermarket?
How old is the amp you have? Does it look like mine and does it have a bass remote?

My system did the same thing because my remote wire was hooked to a fuse (on the passanger side) that did not turn off untill I activated my alarm, also it only did it when I forgot to lower my bass remote level to the lowest setting.

^^ oh...interesting, but my bass level should already be at the lowest. How did you fix it? My amp looks the same as that and i have the bass remote. I also am hooked up to the stock HU
My issue was the remote wire. I was unable to find a good remote wire that turned the amp off once I turned the radio off so I was never able to fix the problem untill I replaced my stock unit with an aftermarhet one. But I never invested alot of time in finding a good remote wire in my fuse box. When you have some time try again to track down your remote (amp turn on/off) wire to see where it is hooked up. Once you do that I'm sure someone on here can help you relocate it to a good remote wire source.
Another thing I had a problem with was my line output converter (converts speaker wire to rca output) level was turned too high which caused my amp to put out a constant noise once my bass remote was turned up, I had to turn the level down on that and it helped.
