New Speakers
New Speakers
I'm looking to change out my speakers. I read the DX6, but am wondering if I should go with the new polk db's. I don't want to put in a new amp yet, and I want a noticable difference in the new speakers. Any recommendations? Also, the new polk's db650s fit in the 2002 tl right?

the opening in the front and rear speakers is 6.5 " but options are very limited, for speakers. So what i suggest is that you put in moldings that u can buy form crutchfield or so to have it turned into a 5.75 " opening thats what i did and went with Kenwood Excelon KFC-Xr51p component speakers in the front and JBL GTO506c in the back, both are component speaker systems and are backed up by 2 Alpine SWR-1241z, in the trunk, that are being ran by Alpine V12. the system is being powered by an Alpine CDA-7998, sounds out of this world. Alpine kix ass, and the kenwood and JBL speakers deliver precise notes.

The focals won't blow you away without an amp. Especially when powered by the stock radio. Do you guys even bother reading the entire posts? :thefinger
nvbluetl,
yeah the newer polk DB's should fit in there as they are pretty shallow. They should be fine for now without an amp since there more efficient than the older polk DB series.
Must agree with Vtec here. If you are keeping the stock head unit, you do not want to look at some high dollar components, unless you are adding an amp. I would go with the Polk or perhaps look at the Infinity Reference series. Both have good sensitivity rating and need little power to get good volume.

Hey since you took first shot, how about learning to use the word "there" properly. It's "... "they are" more efficient..." :thefinger

The Momo's would require some cutting of the door. They are alot bigger than the DX series. They are awesome speakers and would be worth the work. Just be prepared that a spacer would be required and probably cutting of the door, although maybe not much cutting.
