New Member--Needs Help Hard Wire Passport 8500

Hi--
I'm new to the forum, as I just got a 2002 CL-S & have a 8500 Passport radar detector & need some help to hard-wire it.
Thanks,
Bob

get some wire and go to the drivers side fuse box. Plug it in with the accessory fuse (look in the manual for which on it is). Ground the second wire in the same area on one of the gold screws. you can then run the wires up the A pilar and over the roof lining. you can then mount the 8500 up by the rear view miror with the window mounting hardware you have.

if you have other questions just send me an e-mail or reply to this tread

Check the garage for V1's hardwire instruction. The Passport should be the same.

I just did that. Same car, same detector. call escort, or go to there site. Order a direct wire kit. I didn't use the smart one. The smart one has the mute switch, & the little alert light. The 8500 will work fine without it. Make sure to get the one with the phone jack connector. They also sell a plug type version for other detectors. Pick a spot to mount the 8500. Pry off the A piller(the long piece of plastic on the side of the windsheild that goes from the bottom of it to the headliner.) It just pops off, real easy. Run the wire from the kit under the headliner, down the A piller to the fuse box. Once the A piller is put back on the wire will stay hidden, & it won't come loose. Next take one of the gold screws off. Use that screw as the ground. Next take the 4th fuse out. It's the 4th one from the bottom. It controls the drivers side mirror. it's a 7.5 amp fuse. The fuse puller is in the engines fuse box on the passanger side. Cut the wiring kits 12V wire. Strip it. Wrap it around one of the fuse prongs. Doesn't matter which one. Install the fuse back. Push hard to make sure it's in all the way. Now connect the 8500 & your all set. It's really easy.

Does this affect the mirror operation at all when the Detector is on?? I assume it doesn't.. just curious in case I ever decide on getting one..
