Do what I did:
I just took out the trunk light and connected the power wire to the one on my street glow black lights...and mounted them in the top of the trunk there's a gap in mine b/w the trunk and there's a lil metal piece I zip tied it to, and it works great and lights up the whole trunk..it gives a very good lighting effect...

I know the easy way to do it, but I want to be sure I doing it SAFELY is just as important to me, which is why I asked about the relays or fuses.
Anyone want to chime in?

You could put an inline fuse on it to make yourself feel better, but you shouldn't need it for a 12v light bar, your trunk light puts out 12v, and your light runs on 12v.

I cut the wires to the trunk light, but I'm not sure how to match up the 2 wires from the neon lights since the 2 wires from the neon are both black. I tried both combinations with the trunk light wires, and neither worked, and I blew out a fuse. On top of all that, I'm not even sure if the neon light works anymore. Where can I go to test it out?

Just use a relay. Take the trunk light and use it as a tigger for the relay. Take the power wire from the amp and use it to power the neons. Make sure to fuse the neons to separate it from the power wire for the amp.
The way I have it in my SUV is using the remote turn-on wire as the trigger for the relay, which powers on my cold cathodes and my amp. You can use the remote turn-on as a trigger, but there's not really any point in a car unless you lock someone in your trunk with the system on.
