Need Some Advice

Since I am going to switch from JL amps to Eclipse, I have discovered a problem. The front and rear speakers are covered however, the sub is where I need some advice. I have a Diamond Audio 12" M6, dual 4 ohm voice coil sub. Now, in looking around, the only Eclipse sub amp puts out a max of 2,000 watts. Way more than I want plus, more money than I want to spend. My question is, could I hook up a big 2 channel amp to this sub, running one voice coil per channel? Eclipse has some really good looking 2 channel amps that will do 160 x 2 and a little more. My main problem is I have a final load of 2 ohms and bridge 2 channel amps will only handle 4 ohm. Any suggestions? I hate to get rid of the Diamond sub. It is like brand new. Thanks.

here is what i would do: since you are looking at the two channel amps, get the 35230. judging by their site (i have to admit i'm not too familiar with eclipse amps) it looks like the biggest 2ch save for their class d amps. from there, since there is no wording that i can find that the amp is even 2ohm stable (which is wierd by the way) i would just wire each VC to it's own channel. that way you avoid any impedence issues. just make sure you keep your gains and what not set identically for both channels or then you'll have a some fun

you could also bridge it and wire the two VCs in a series, which would bring the load up to 4 ohms

cali TL......Wiring the dual 4 ohm voice coils in series would present an 8 ohm load.

Scott P...Thanks, that is what I am thinking as well. It will either be that or get a different sub, Diamond or Eclipse, that is dual 2 ohm voice coils.

How much are the eclipse amps? So it puts out 160wattsx2 at 4ohms? do u think that will be enough. Or heres my personal advice, get the TDX that is the only sub that I love as much as the W7.

I would love to have a TDX but, then you have to pay for the amp to power it.

Is 160 x 2 enough or my M6? For me, probably so but, I still would like to get as close to 500 or more as possible. I am either going to find a big 2 channel that will do 160 x 2 or more @ 4 ohms or get a 4 channel, bridge the channels to get probably 250 x 2 @ 4 ohm or buy a new sub, Eclipse aluminum or another Diamond, and get an amp capable of 400-500 watts into 4 ohm mono.

There isnt a single eclipse that puts out close to 800 watts? at 2 0hm. The eclipse alum is a nice sub but I like the diamond alot better. I mean if u can sell the M6 dual 4 and get a Dual that would be awesome. I really like Diamond audio subs, and If I can redo all my stuff it would be all Diamond Audio.

I still am not for sure the route I am going. I have a lead on a Diamond D7104 for a great price. It is 100 x 4 and 400 x 2. If it works out, I would have to get a new sub. Maybe a dual 2 ohm and run the fronts with 100 x 2 and bridge the rear for 400 watts. I am also looking at some big 5 channel amps. Like the Memphis Belle. It will do 75 x 4 and 600 x 1 @ 2ohms. I actually already put my brand new Eclipse amp up for sale. I really need to quit changing my mind but, that is what makes it fun. Trying new stuff.

I have had Rockford before and I had some of the older Kicker. ZX460 and Impulse line. The new Kicker amps look pretty good. The 5 channel might be pretty nice. Diamond amps are very expensive for me. It would take all my coin to afford the big 4 channel I am looking at.

diamond audio amps are pretty pricey... you might want to look into some of the arc audio amps... but i think they are a little pricey as well... have you ever looked at mmats amps... that is what i was going to go with before i got the great deal i got on all my jl equipment... also why are you stepping away from the jl equipment..

No particular reason for leaving JL. Just my ever changing system theory, I guess.

Arc Audio looks awesome but, I am not sure their 5 channels's sub power is enough. I have heard of mmats but, I always thought they were more for the SPL crowd. I really like my Memphis amps in the CRV. If I could find a good deal on a Memphis Belle, that would be nice. Also, check out this beauty I am watching:
