Need a new amp for the sub, help...!!!

I have a PG Tantrum 500.2, with the Texas weather and me playing my system loud, its overheating and shutting down.

I want an amp that will stay cool and give me a quality sound.

Its got to have 500w rms and be in the $400-450 range-wholesale prices.

Right now I am looking at PPI PCX-2125, JL 500/1,and PG ZX400ti.

What do you guys think?

I would rather go with something other then audiobahn. What ohms is the amp running at? Not very good, if its shutting off on you. From the ones you have listed, I woudl go with the JL Audio 500/1.

My JL 500/1 slams the shit out of my 10W7. It gives a constant 500 watts at any voltage also!!!!

The sub is 3 ohms, but the beauty part of the JL amp is that it will give 500 watts from 2 ohms - 8 ohms

For safety measures, I would recommend installing a fan.

I do know if you buy JL off of the internet, you don't get the warranty.........you should find a shop that sells it locally!!!!!

I am thinking maybe if I put a couple of cooling fans, it will eliminate this overheating problem....

im actually VERY surprised that the amp overheats on you. Sure class a/b amps do get warm, but not that hot. I ran my old RF 800a2 in the sun at 4ohm with no probs. Try using the fans, and see how it works. Thats the chepaest way of doing it. IF that doesnt help, I would talk to the dealer on that amp, and see whats up.

Well, I've bought the amp used from this board. So, the dealer is out of the question. Now I wonder if perhaps the amp was overused...I am going to try the fans and if that doesnt work then I will go with a JL 500/1....

Thanx Nicky, I saw that you are getting a major installation done, Good luck on that!!!
And switch out the OEM headunit ASAP, you'll get a real sound out of those components...
