Navi =Video

Kai! Welcome to the forum!
If you plan on purchasing an aftermarket DVD-based Navi system, you can usually watch DVD movies on the screens also. If you purchase a TL with the factory navigation system, it is not setup to playback anything except the DVD-navigation disk. This can be modified with a video decoder to accept the input from aftermarket DVD players, VCRs, Playstations, and whatever else . Run some searches on this forum, and you'll find a lot of info on the topic.

Yes like bebber said, It can be done via the Pioneer RGB decoder. its a few hours of work. There is great instruction on how to do this by Steve on top of the Audio section, the inventor of the navi video kit .
The only problem is that the decoder is hard to find. If you know where to get it, let me know ... i definitely get one.

No, the instructions for using the Pioneer AVC-RGB1 will not apply to using Pioneer GEX-P7000TV. In a few ways the Pioneer GEX-P7000TV is a better solution, TV tuner, built-in FM modulator, wireless controller, 2 A/V inputs and 1 rear A/V output. As for installing the GEX there is no switch or relay required. But it still requires soldering 13 wires to the backside and top of the PCB inside the GEX box. Also to have the GEX 100% operational it requires a Pioneer AVD-W6010 or AVD-W6000 connected at the same time as your navi display.
Here is my post on using the GEX (Shown above in this post).
Another "Video On My Navi" design I've come up with is using Pioneer's GEX-P7000TV unit mounted under passenger seat with DVD navigation computer. The GEX has TV tuner, 2 source A/V switcher, rear audio and video output, wireless remote control and built-in FM modulator. In order for the Pioneer GEX to function 100% with on-screen text display (channel labels and video input labels) it requires you use a Pioneer AVD-W6010 6.5" LCD display for the rear screen. This LCD screen is detachable from it's base mount that could be positioned on the center tray table OR from an overhead ceiling mount to be announced shortly. Just add a video cassette player (VCP) or DVD player and your set! Here is the break down on cost (based on ttp://www.etronics.com)
Pioneer GEX-P7000TV $259
Pioneer AN-G3 Mobile TV antenna $75
Video Navi Modifcation $150
Pioneer AVD-W6010 6.5" LCD $599
With this design on your EX w/Navi you can watch TV, DVD or VHS on your navi display by wireless remote control with audio on your factory stereo. With the rear LCD monitor you can select a separate A/V source from the navi display OR have the rear display navi screen too!

I clicked on the link for the instructions on this page but nothing comes up. I am looking to buy this Pioneer GEX-P7000 but do not want to do that until I know that it will work for sure on teh TL Navigation screen.
Anyone out there that can help that may have archived the instructions a while ago??
Also, how easy is it to make the TV work on this unit? Do I need to buy something additional (antenna) or is it all built into this. I remember finding somewhere on this site some link to someone who had used this component but can not find it any more.
Please help, thanks!

the avc or gex units are ways to create video inputs only. once integrated into the factory wiring, you will need to buy and hook up a dvd player to those units to play dvd...you will need to buy/connect vcp to play tapes...you will need to buy/connect game console to play games...etc. you cannot use the stock headunit or the stock dvd navi unit as video sources!

Anyone out there that can point me to the instructions for the GEX P7000?? All the instructions that I have found on this forum seem to point to the AVC converter. However, most people seem to that wish they would have bought the GXE instead.
A few people on this forum have even said that the installation for these two are very different, so, someone out there must have directions for this and can hopefully point us in the right direction. Thanks again for your help guys!
