My Amp keeps...

...overheating. So annoying. I'll be driving down the road for like 20 minutes with the system up, and it'll just shut off for like 4 minutes, then come back up for a few minutes, then back off, etc.

It's a RF 1200 watt amp. I have it wired up to 2 12's. I used to have a 600 watt RF amp that did the same thing, but more often. SO I replaced it with this amp which hits hella harder, but I still have the same issues with overheating.

Is this common?

Anything that can be done to help this?

Any help/input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

how and where is the amp mounted? this use to happen to me cause i had the sub amp mounted verticly in between the 2 10s in my buick. Only way to stop it from overheating was putting a 120mm fan above it that would run when the amps where on to cool it.

My RF recently started doing this, I think there is a little problem with the amp. No way I overheated my amp in 20 min just powering one 8in jl w3 I have been thinking about switching too something else...It is one of the most annoying things in the world, for the amp to cut in and out every 4 min...Where are you at? I'm in So Cal....On a hot morning I rode for two hours no problem...much cooler night time, my amp was done in 30 min!
