MP3 Solution

I used to hang out in these forums, but I've been away for a few months. I'm hoping someone can bring me up to speed on a couple of things...

I'm dying to get MP3 into my Car (2002 TL-S w/ Navi). My first choice would be to use a small computer (see www.mp3car.com) with the Navi Screen as the display.

I like the computer idea because I can keep my entire CD collection on a big HD.

Has anyone seen this done? I'm concerned that the screen will not work very well as a computer monitor, especially if I'm using a composite video connection.

If the computer idea is a bad one, I would like to know about the possibility of using an aftermarket stereo system. What are the limitations? Are there decent kits out there so it won't look too bad?

Does anyone know of any good pictures out there that show aftermarket stereos in a TL?

Appreciate the help..

Sony has a HD-based MP3 solution. IT's pricey but looks like it'll do what you want. I personally like the CDX-MP70 which you can get on Ebay for about $325. The Alpine 7894 is pretty slick too in the same price range. Both the Alpine and Sony I mentioned are CD-based and not HD.

That's cool. I'm really curious how well you can blend an aftermarket stereo into the slick interior of the TL.

Does anyone have any photos of aftermarket installations?

you can get a HONIL or blitz HON/ALP DMXV.1 adaptor that plugs into the back of your radio, then get an Alpine 6 disc cd changer that plays mp3 (cha-S634) and you're set. Everything plug directly into your stock radio. It has been successfully done by a few members here in the past. Search and you'll find the thread.

The changer is a good idea but you can't browser folders because there is no head unit for it. I've been thinking of adding an mp3 head unit and mounting it in the handrest and outputting the audio to the stock head unit. Not sure exactly how I plan to do this yet but it's in the works.
