mid bass in doors-2nd gen tl

is it possible to fit shallow mount 8 inch mid bass in the doors? does it make sense?

i was thinking about buying ssmb8's for all the doors but not sure if this is just crazy.

any input would be appreciated, thanks!

ok let me ask this another way.

what speakers would get you the best sound from your doors? When i say best sound, i mean overall best sound but with a nice amount of bass or lowend.

dont really just want bass coming from the rear sub, i'd like to feel it in the front seats also.

I understand i'm not going to get window rattling bass from the doors but a lil thump shouldnt be to much to ask for.

Also, would these door speakers have to be amplified or is there enough power from an aftermarket headunit to power the door speakers?

You would have to modify your door to fit 8" speakers, and anytime you want to feel your bass or midbass your gonna need power, the only way to do that is w/ a good amp, your headunit does not have enough juice! You could go w/ good
6.5 speakers, but you still need to fully deaden your doors if you don't want it rattling and vibrating w/ the bass. If you don't know what your doing, better go to a good installer and explain to him what you want.

thanks for the reply, appreciate the input. let me ask this though, would it make sense to use an 8 inch sub where the current bose sub is, and use that for midbass. Then throw a sub in the trunk for the real lows.

This is what I did.

I really also like upfront midbass.

Made MDF ring for my Alpine type X woofer, and dynammated the hell out of my door. Then I took some tupper wear to make a sealed baffle.

Mid bass is simple amazing with my subwoofer off. Also make sure you use larger gauge wire from the door to the amp.

So pretty much each of my front speakers sit in .3 cuft sealed box

Finally! thats what i'm talkin about! your setup sounds very interesting. what size are the alpine type x door speakers.

I knew i could not be the only person that wants some midbass in the car, unless the upgrade from factory to any aftermarket door speaker is so dramatic that it doesnt really matter what you use.

i'm just scared of buying some door speakers and gettin it all hooked up only to find out it sounds like a "home theatre in a box" all highs and lows with nothing in the middle.

I know what you mean. I actually have a 3 way setup up front.

I have a 1.25 Soft dome tweeter, .75 Ring radiator tweeter, and the 6.5 Midbass.

All powered by a JL 300/4.

You really dont have to make the whole tupper wear stuff. I use to have type R and they where not bad . Then again when I had the Type R I didnt upgrade speaker wire.

With the doors make sure you dynamat the door and door skin. Make a 3/4 spacer for the speaker, and upgrade the speaker wires.

Take your time and dont rush it.

Your 3 way setup upfront sounds interesting, where are the tweeters mounted? Any pics? I also have alpine type x components and am not impressed with them.
