keychain remote sensors

Does anybody know where the remote sensors are located on the TSX and what the functional distance is?

Great question! Where tf are they, anyway?

I can tell you a little about the distance -- there was a thread about that "over there." It varies according to circumstances, plus a lot of people swore the distance is greater if you point the thing in your mouth. (n/k)

Don't aim in your mouth, but simply place the tip on your chin so it can use your bidy as an antenna

Yup, that works pretty well with garage door openers....

That doesn't make any sense... Can someone explain how that works? (body as antenna/transmitter?)

Edit: and why your mouth/chin? Is there some special property there that your hand (pushing the button) doesn't have? The saliva maybe? I don't know...

I don't know why it works but it does. My dads garage door will not open unless I place the opener under my chin. Same thing with my old Civic. When the battery was low on the remote, my doors would'nt open unless I placed the fob under my chin.

We have a few smart guys around here I'm sure someone can explain it.

I tried this while I was out at lunch. Besides feeling kind of goofy (I'm sure I looked like was trying to kill myself with EMF) I couldn't say for certain that this helped at all. Although I do think it may have cleaned out my sinuses.

Do you think the receiver is part of the antenna??

Calling Dr. Lung! Calling Dr. Lung!

We need Lung Fu Mo Shi.
Let's get his ass over here, even if we have to call him "Brandon."

When we were talking about this "over there," he had this terrific post where he explained it in minute scientific detail, as only he can.

I looked for it a little, would have loved to paste it over here. Didn't find it.

I know that was just a moment of divine inspiration, and maybe he can't do it again. But only he can try.

(EDIT) Awwwwww :'( :'( :'(

To Unplug took off his great little post that this was a comment on.

(Maybe he was afraid Dr. Lung would sue???)

That's because the human body makes a pretty good antenna besause of human composition (water, + static charges/ energies with in our body.. etc..).
So this trick will work even better if you place the remote against a body part that contains a lot of water.

Such as the mammary gland of a lactating woman.

I would say even non-lactating.

Only for the lactating case. For the nonlactating case we need shadypoolboy.

DNB is positioning himself big-time for post-of-the-month.

(Heh heh I said position)

OK, I understand this. But the IR, radio or whatever waves the remote transmitter emits have nothing to do with conduction of electricity. Still

From the '04 Service Guide, p 22.121:

The keyless entry system is integrated with the MICS. The multiplex integrated control unit (MICU) receives LOCK, UNLOCK, and PANIC signals from the door multiplexer control unit (keyless receiver).
From the '04 Service Guide, p. 22.128:

The Multiplex Integrated Control Unit is located behind the left kick panel.
Nothing is specified int the guide as to effective ranges for the fob.

It's all SCIENCE, man. We'll have to wait for Nova to do an episode entitled "Extending the Range of Miniature RF Transmitters Via Body Parts."

Then Monty Python will do a variation on "naughty body parts" using a hand pointer and those talking heads where only the jaw moves.

so nobody has tried the mouth yet?(I'm the one that brought it up last time, not that it matters) Try it I swear it works. Last weekend I was just out of range with my alarm, put it under the chin and it didnt work. Aimed it in my mouth and it did.

I looked like hell too.

BTW -- Back then, I assumed you were j/k.
But from some of the stuff on here, I'm not so sure any more.

I'm an EE and will attempt to explain the effect in laymen's terms:

First, some background. The FOB is a low-frequency unidirectional transmitter, and as such, broadcasts its energy in all directions. The portion of energy directed away from the intended target (your car) is wasted. So, by its nature, a unidirectional transmitter has a shorter range per watt than a directional transmitter.

Therefore, to gain additional transmission range, some directional coupling must be added to the signal. Your teeth, taken as a combination of tooth enamel and metal fillings, provide a multi-path reflection for the long wavelength FOB signal. In effect, this re-directs that portion of energy that would have been transmitted away from the target (lost), resulting in an apparent gain in dynamic range.

Therefore, and you can now see how this makes sense, the greatest increase in range per given power unit would come from a highly directional transmitter, such as could be simulated by placing the entire FOB in your mouth with only a small opening aimed at the target of interest.

Arrow

The mouth thing doesn't really work for me.

I was in the parking lot today and tried it and no go.

So I walked up to some random (hot--only works with this segment of the female population) girl and used her dual transmitters. Seems to work quite well for me.

Disclaimer: Car may or may not open. What is guaranteed is a kick in the nuts or a slap in the face. In rare occasions, the subject may offer her phone number. However, your mileage may vary.

when you aim under your chin...open your mouth...the waves are using your head as a directional attenenna as explained by mancur

FWIW, I tried it last night. It was dark, so hopefully no one saw me. Aiming it in the mouth worked wonders though.
