Is it just me or are MTX's garbage
With all the people that swear by MTX, I'm sure that I'm going to get flamed for this, but after listening to the sound quality, I think that MTX is one of the most overrated subwoofer company's in existence. I drove around to several speaker shops yesterday looking to replace my subs that got stolen a few weeks ago. I would have gotten some more Polk Momo's, but they stopped making them. So I went in to check out some MTX's, because I heard they're good. I'll admit, they hit pretty hard, but all the ones I listened to had no clarity and most of them sounded distorted. I ended up splurging and buying some JL Audio subs (which I can't really afford), but sound quality is important to me, so I guess it's worth it. I'm sure not all MTX's suck, because they do have a good reputation and I hear their amps never overheat, but I went to about 7 different speaker shops and I couldn't find one MTX subwoofer that I liked. Is the problem that I'm to picky about wanting a crisp-clear sound as well as the ability to hit hard and piss off the neighbors or are MTX's as overrated as I think they are? I'm just curious if I should give up on MTX's for good or if I should consider giving them another look when it's time to replace my new subwoofers.
unfortunately they are following the same trend the RF went through several years back. They used to make some awesome stuff. I mean amps and subs that could blow you away. Unfartunately they were picked up into a big box chain of stores (CC) and had to begine to mass produce. with that came the pressure to spit out quantity. this I believe is where their downfall began. The subs were the first to fall victim. as you said they just don't sound as good. Even their newest line of subs (the 8500) has problems with it's motor workings and what not from what i have heard. Their amps have still heald up fairly well and as was mentioned here are still a great buy. In my opinion they have lost a little of their edge though. I know it doesn't help you now in your quest, but givem a year or two and I would be willing to bet you see MTX make a major push back to the front of the market with some amazing products.
