JL compomponent Vs Alpine Type R's

Just wonder, I am about to redo my speakers up front in the TL. I bought some Alpine SPX 177a, but sold them later on. I still have Alpine Type Rs in the door. How do the Type R compare to the JL Xr?? My amp is a 300/4 and I am gonna bridge the amp and it will only be power the front speakers.

Well heres what I mgiht be doing.

The front stage is gonna consist of JL XR coax and a extra pair of XR tweeters. I am puttin coax so it iwll improve imagaing and add a extra pair of tweets to raise the sound stage a bit. The front stage will be ran by my 300/4.

The rear is gonna have JL Trs ran off a Rockford 150s amp.

sounds to me like you have way to much time and money on your hands there dnd... if you put both coxials and tweets in the front it is going to be way to bright... and why are you limiting yourself to only jl and alpine... why not focal, diamondaudio, rainbow pro, mb quarts, etc... personally i think that you could go with some great components up front possible da hex s600s... or some focal utopias... and then just put some pretty good coxials in the rear... by going with coxials up front you are also going to loose some of your midbass response.. stick with components... you may also want to try relocating them to say the kick panels... this would improve your imaging as well....

I am very biased when it comes to car audio and usally only like, Alpine, JL, and Rockford. I was thinking of the MB quart premium216. I heard the XR and I really liked them. I mainly listen to Rap and Alternative and I tested out some cds onthe XRs and was pretty happy. About the midbass, I talked to the JL rep and they said the coax and the component has the same amount of midbass, dunno if thats true or not, but thats what he said.

How do the JL Xrs compete with the MB premiums.

i dont know but everytime i have compaired coxials to components the components always have a better midbass response... but as far as compairing jl to mb quarts.. personally i think quarts sound way to bright... i would take the jl over mb quarts any day... but you may also want to look into bostom z series, diamond audio, rainbow pro, focal, etc... i to am a huge jl/alpine fan but i discovered that jl does not make the best everything... like jl coxials and components are good but not great... and compairing them to alpine i would have to say they would be about equal... it would come down to price for me...

I was thinking about midbass and with I do Coax woudnlt I only get about 40 watts to the woofer and 40 to the tweeter, and another 75 to the extra tweets.

I heard the a pair of coax and a seperate pair of tweets in a silverado that ran off the front channels of a 450/4 and had a 1000/1 running two JL W7 8" in a vented box. The guy played some micheal jackson, and it souned awesome but then again he had 2 8s which provieded a good amount of midbass.

After reading many reviews, and thinking I do need alot of midbass. I am gonna do the SPX177A's again.

Also the crossovers are gonna be diplayed behind a plexi window on the door were the light is.

good choice.. if you really are looking to improve the imaging you should 1) place the components in the kick panels... 2) go with a 3 speaker component set... (ie midbass, mib and tweets...)...

I called up few install shops today and they all had good comments on the SPX. I even called up streezeffect, and all I heard was good about the SPX. I wanna do kickpanels shaw, but I would just be hitting them and kicking the shizt out of them.

Well I changed my mind again, and now i am getting Alpine SPX-F17M. They are the flagship speakers that are sold indivudual.

Shaw the only problem with the 3 way is mounting the midrange. Ultimate audio said only place I should mount that is in the kick panel along with the tweeter and the mid in the door. I think i would just kick my speakers to much if they where in panels.
Enjoy your bike and be safe. I would love to have a R6,

pretty much change everything... i was going to switch out all the alpine stuff for eclipse or pioneer.... and i was going to take the pro components and move them to the back door and go with the z components up front.. also i was going to upgrade to a 10w7... but now i am ditching the tv and the dvd and going with just the alpine headunit upfront.... i think i am over the whole tv in the car thing...
