iPod Connection
iPod Connection
Over the weekend I was bored and so I decided to hook up my iPod to the AUX in port on my deck so that I could ditch the shitty FM Transmitter. The only problem that after I got everything hooked up I get a high pitched whining noise that seems to be related to acceleration, it is a quiet whine when i am at idle and increases in volume and pitch as i accelerate. The i-pod is being powered by a Belkin Auto Kit which plugs into the cig lighter and then a 3.5mm Monster cable that connects to the alpine Ai-Net optional input adapter which plugs into my deck? Is this something I am going to have to live with or is it fixable...
I don't currently have an ipod connected but when I did I don't remember anything like that. I just used a crappy headphone to RCA cable I had laying around to input it into my aux in. I don't remember any noise like that. I just used mine off battery power most the time.
Hope it helps

You need a ground loop isolator in line between the ipod and the headunit.
Try to play the ipod without it being connected to the lighter. There should be no whine when you play it like that.

belkin whine
I'm having the exact same problem my belkin car adapter and ipod connected through a blitzsafe.
I agree that its a grouding issue, I'm going to try to beef up the grounds this weekend and see if that helps.
I tend to think that it is also a design problem with the belkin adapter b/c my DVD player plays fine through the blitzsafe.

Update.
I put a ground loop isolator on the blitzsafe input-- seems to have fixed the whine from the belkin/iPod and has no effect on my dvd player performance.
Sucks that belkin didnt spend the extra 50 cents to put some ferrite beads in the iPod car adapter.
Alternately you could put an isolator on the 12V accesory plug.
