Exclamation Installing new system Help!!

Hey guys New TSX owner here ...Got the 2008 w/o navi. (but I purchased the Garmin Nuvi 660) Carbon gray with ebony interior and underbody kit. I'm some what of a novice so please bare with me-The stock system is pretty decent but it's not enough power for me. I dont want people to hear me from down the block but I want to be able to feel it in my car. So after alot of research I am planning on changing all the speakers...Im planning on buying the Infinity kappa 692.7i 6x9's for the rear deck as well as a set of infinity's for the front and rear doors. Can anyone tell me which infinity's were the easiest to install with minimal car alteration and excellent sound as well as which mounts I need if any? I want to install the speakers myself (want to save as much money as possible) but have the amp and wiring done by a professional. I plan on powering everything (or atleast 4 speakers) with the infinity basslink II with the 4 channel expansion amp. Any information (especially what kind of harnesses I need because I know Crutchfield is great, but I've found alot of places that are cheaper) will be greatly appreciated . I've spent countless hours deciding what to do with this system, and I need help- Thanks again!

It won’t work (the amp that is). Only aftermarket amps with Balanced Differential inputs will work with the TSX HU. If you plan on leaving the stock amp in place and feeding the basslink with speaker level inputs then be aware that only the rear door outputs are full range. The factory amp has an internal xover.

The harness and connectors for the TSX are not available from the aftermarket but I know where you can get one.

I've decided on getting the Infinity Reference 5010cs for the front doors, disconnecting the back door speakers completely and getting the infinity kappa 692.7i's for the rear deck...all being powered by the Infinity Basslink II with expansion amp. What do you think? P.S. I've actually decided to get all this through Crutchfield so they actually give me the brackets and harnesses, and thanks again Jeff you know you stuff.

They didn't give you all of the harnesses. You still need a way to tap the preamp outputs and convert them from balanced to unbalanced. I can assure you they did not give you the parts to do that (mainly because they don't sell them).

The basslink will not work if you try to feed it from the TSX HU. The TSX HU uses two signal wires and no signal ground for each channel and your amp only uses one signal wire and a signal ground for each channel. If you try to connect it you will short your for channels to gather and get a real bad noise. The last one to try this was Reach, he got lots of noise, I built him an interface “BALUN” to convert the two wire to a single wire feed. Other people have had the exact same experience, if you install the basslink amp it will squeal like a pig. The only amps that work with the TSX HU without an interface are the JLs and the Rockford Punch. You need an amp with balanced differential inputs. Crutchfield does not have a harness for the TSX and probably never will because of the two to one wire problem.

The TSX pin out for one channel looks like this;
Signal out (+)
Signal out (-)
Shield

Standard Car audio amp input looks like this;
Signal input
Signal Ground

This is why there is no aftermarket harness for the TSX, How would you connect this?

Amps with differential inputs look like this;
Signal in (+)
Signal in (-)

My harness is designed to work only with the amps with diff inputs.

I wont be making any BALUNs for awhile so if you go your route you will have to live with it.

wow i feel like im so screwed- I never thought it was going to be so complicated. I understand you aren't making the 'balun' anymore- and I actually spoke to crutchfield again and read them what you wrote and they said the 'Pac oem-2' should work. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-gfRNzZg...oem2&i=127OEM2 could you take a look at it and tell me if it makes any sense. again I really appreciate all your help.

I just did a bit of digging on that part. Looks interesting, but nowhere I found mentioned balanced / unbalanced. I'd say you should give PAC a call and ask them about it.

Thanx bully for looking that up for me. and Mercman appreciate your input as well. Let me know if down the road your going to make those 'baluns'. Until then I think im just going to install the basslink II with a monster 650watt amp kit, and just keep the stock speakers running. Is that alright?- has anyone had any good experience with that? Ive actually looked into the mtx x thunderlink too...but I think ill stick to the basslink II.

Looks like that basslink has speaker level inputs? You can tap the rear 6x9's for signel and be good to go. If you use a pair of honda speaker speaker harneses you can tap them without cutting the stock wires (you'd just be disconnecting the 6x9's, which I'd recommend anyway since they only produce bass and you'll now have the basslink for that)

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-nQxSpd5...ker&i=12071012

Circuit City and Best buy sell those as well for around $10.

Only other thing you might need to do is tap something for a turn on lead. You can do a search for the color on the stock turn on lead. (Merc's harness utilizes it, but you wont be using the harness yet if you are using the stock power for mids/highs)

Bully...once again thank you. what your saying makes alot of sense I know the 6x9's mainly pump bass, but you dont think the system would sound better and even louder with the 6x9's in place?

No problem. Glad I can help. Merc is the man but obviously slammed with requests for harnesses and the like, so I'll chime in when I can. I have been running something similar to you with the basslink (minus the 4 channel addition) foir a while. Have a 250 watt amp running off the rear 6x9's and a 10" sub. Had a perfect weekend this past weekend to install everything else. Wife out of town, but had her car, so I could take over the garage and take mine apart on Friday and not have to be done until sunday night. Would still have a car if I needed to run anywhere. Had all my parts, JL 300/4 amp, DLS components up front, old coax's in the rear, mercman harness, all cables and connectors, wood, carpet, speaker spacers, etc.... And wouldn't you know it, the damn amp is toast. Sucked. Sending the amp in for repair as soon as I get time to drop it off. At least, while I had the car in pieces, I ran all of my cables so the hard part is done. Hopefully plug and play when the amp comes back. Sorry to hijack the thread, just needed to vent.

OK...So I finally got the basslink II installed today...and honestly it sounds great. Like I mentioned before im out of that balls to the walls bass mentality so I didnt expect it to wake up the neighborhood or anything. But now I can listen to my music at 25-30 and it sounds amazing. Thanks for everyones help. just ordered a rear trunk lip as well Ill be posting pictures of my car one of these days
