Installing Aftermarket Head Unit in 2001 TL

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions about installing an aftermarket head unit. I have looked at the stickied thread but many of the links are broken and I couldn't find exact answers.

Do I just have to connect the cable that goes into the back of the stock headunit to the wiring harness that is spliced to my new head unit? Or do I have to bypass the bose EQ? If so, how does that work with the wiring harness I bought for my TL?

Thanks

It will be best for an audio shop to take care of the that for you. Bose system is each speaker and if not installed right it can cost you more.
Good luck!!1

12volts - This is disinformation, please be careful people are counting on you.

Mark - Hey there, I used the tutorial to remove the Bose EQ and it worked perfectly. You may have issues with getting the stock subwoofer to play loud enough, as some people find their head unit doesn't output enough rca pre-out voltage to get that thing moving like it should.

The tutorial should still be out there, let me find you a link

With that, you should be good to go.

For 12volts - In our vehicle, the stock Bose speakers can easily mate up with another head unit, or an amp, or really whatever you want. In my system, I have a very powerful 4ch, a sub amp, a processor, and a dvd head unit. I still have the stock front and rear Bose speakers, but what I've done is add a pair of Dayton ND20FA tweeters to my a-pillar. I've also added a pair of good 10's in a sealed box in the trunk and removed the stock sub (so the subs in the trunk can easily and clearly be heard in the cabin through the sub hole.) The processor takes the head unit signal and breaks it up into a tweeter, woofer, and subwoofer output and my amps take that and send it to the stock speakers, a-pillar tweeters, and of course the subs. So, though most Bose systems are hard to deal with, this one is easy.

Thanks! I got my headunit installed but I couldn't access the Bose EQ and didn't see any detailed information on how to actually get it out. The thread you posted had great pictures and tutorials for what to do AFTER the EQ is accessible, but I couldn't get to that step.

So anyway I have the new head unit and speakers working, it's just missing the sub. I'll spend some time this weekend messing around with it, but I may end up just running wires back to the sub amp instead of going through the EQ so I don't have to take the entire dash apart again. I accidentally broke a couple clips on the driver's side fake wood panel and don't want to stress it anymore.

i read on the forum that our stock bose speakers are rated at 2ohms. are they stamped on the back? has anyone verified this?

i would like to install an aftermarket head unit w/ built-in bluetooth. i plan to use the new headunit's internal amp to power the stock speakers. my concern is that the new head unit's internal amp is rated for use with 4-8 ohm speakers and by connecting it to our stock 2ohm speakers may result in damaging the head unit over time.

anyone running an aftermarket head unit using its built-in amp to power the stock bose speakers?
