Install Update
I have not updated in a while and thought I would take the time to do so. The kickpanels are pretty much done, except for carpeting. They were not easy to make and I wanted to try them out before I went to the trouble of carpeting them. I installed the 6 1/2" Alpine Type R components in them and they sound fantastic. Hopefully, the carpet will cover up a few of my mistakes. But, for my first fiberglass project, I was pretty pleased with them. Now, I need to find some floormats to fit around them.
I started work on the trunk and installing 2 amps. A MTX 6304 and a MTX 6500d. I did alot of head scratching and actually what I came up with was a fluke. Using a piece of 1/2 MDF that I had laying around, I found that there is a groove inbetween the back of the seat area and the metal. I was able to cut the piece to almost press fit into the area. It slides up in the groove as I push the piece back toward the seat back. I am going to put a few screws thru the metal and into the wood to keep it from moving. I do not think it would move anyway but, better safe than sorry.
I got a digital camera for Christmas and I am going to take pics of everything. Can someone tell me how to post them?
One last note or question: Does anyone have any suggestions on where to put sub or subs? Now that the amp rack is against the seats, that rules that out as I do not want to put anything in front of the rack to cover it up. How about the left side wall in the corner area. I would like to still be able to lift the cover to get to the spare. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just learned how to post pics up recently. Well, you can post them from your home server, if you have one, if not, you will have to use one of those free picture post sites..like yahoo group or www.imagestation.com from sony. What you do is upload the pictures and copy the link to the pic.
Come and post your reply and where you want to put a picture you use the command "
" everything inside the quotes, not including the quotes.
Those are the same directions from this site

I have my sub sitting on the driver side of the trunk firing towards the other side of the trunk and it sounds great. I hear less bass outside and more inside.
Right now, I just have a 10" L7 in a sealed Kicker enclosure just sitting back there. It is a designed for a truck so, I have it laying flat. The box is the Rhino truck lining looking stuff and I do not want to mess it up by drilling holes in it. So it kinda just slides around a little.
I like the idea you are using DND. I am thinking about a single 12" Alpine Type R in that spot. Does your box stick out past the lift up carpet? I do not remember what sub you have in there. The single 10" L7 is plenty of bass for me. I think the 12" Alpine would be great. Let me know what you think.
Hopefully pics will be tonight. If not, tomorrow. I will just post them to my little website on Earthlink and place the link in my post.

It does stick out but I still have my whole trunk to use. I took out the side cuddy hole plastic thing and the box sits there pretty secured. My sub is a Solobaric L5 12". And its plenty of bass. I use to have one Type R 12 in the same spot and it sounded awesome. I just wanted to get lil more bass thats why i got the L5, but your L7 10 should hit pretty damn hard to. you are using a MTX 6500 correct. So thats about 700 watta rms at 14.4 volts i believe. IF u get teh type R u will have to keep the gain down quite a bit. Just get a new box and keep the solobaric. I personally go for sound quilty and the solobaric isnt so bad. SO now its up to i if u wanna keep the solo or get the type R. I have no regrets on both subs.
I might try out a single 10 in the car that I ahve laying around in my room its a fosgate he. Probally my mids and high will overwelm the lil ****z though.
Keep me updated on your decision.

I am actually thinking about keeping the 10" L7 and having an enclosure built that will hug that left corner. My birthday is this week and I think the wife will let me have it done. I know the squares put out more bass than any one woofer I have ever heard. I too am more into SQ but, I want to be able to rattle my teeth if I get the urge. I am going to talk with a local guy tomorrow about building an enclosure. I am thinking maybe he can build something with a face that can be changed. That way, if I do not like the 10, I can try something else. I will let you know how it goes.

You had that woofer in your MDX before correct. How did it sound in there, any teeth rattling? What type of music do u like anyways. Like i said befire my 12 has made the hair on my neck move and also my teeth rattle, that is wit the help of a eq and bass boost. Do what one of my friend did when 4 kicker comp VR wit a ported box wasnt enough. Go wit 8 kicker comp Vrs in a ported box. damn that thing was insane. The Type wont do any teeth rattling unless u get 2 of those, but it will sure sound nice and clean. When I let people listen to my system and then I open the trunk they usually are like WTF where is the other woofer. Since u have a L7 it should hit as well as a type R and right try to just get a nice box for the L7 instaed of custom one.
You are correct. I did have it in my MDX. It would pound like mad in the MDX but, it was just laying in the back and it was all open space. It has been since about 1993 since I have had a trunk and I did not know if the 10" L7 would fire thru trunk and provide enough bass or not. That is my plan for now though is just to use the one 10" L7 in the side corner.
I was worried as well that one 12" Type R would not be any better than the one 10" L7. Maybe a single 12" L7? I just prefer the sound quality of a 10 over a 12. I just do not know if the 6500d would be enough for a 12. It tests at 600 watts @ 2 ohm with 12.5 volts.

I was honestly gonna get a L7 10 after the type R since I listen to mostly techno but then I also listen to rap that drops really low so I got teh 12. the L5 really keeps up with any beat.
600@ 2ohm wit 12.5 volts is when the car is off
Wit the engine running it bumps up to 700+ watts wit 14 volts
The L7 will pound in your car Its gonna be really damn loud ill tell ya.
yea I was wrong i just looked at the specs of the 6500d and its 775 RMS at 14.4 volts

Thanks for the advice DND. I am going to stick with the 10" L7 for now. Just need to find the time now to build the enclosure. I am going to take pics tonight. My wife had the car yesterday and it was dark when she got home. The kicks and the amp board need carpet but, I am going to take pics and try and get them posted tonight anyway.
ok u know what, Screw the 10 L7
just get the new Kicker SoloX (18 inch solobaric) it only weighs 100 lbs and u will only need as little as two directed 2400 amps to push it???
Sounds good huh.
I am think of just ordering a L7 10 off of ebay and see how it sounds.

Magniviper:
Thats a awesome woofer, IF u use your trunk get one 12, with you dont use your trunk that much still get one 12. I am just a one woofer guy. What amp would u use to power that.
AcuraX2:
I was jsut bored and was takin a break from homework and was testing the woofer in different places in the trunk and these are the observations I got.
When it sits on the side of the trunk firing towards the other side ( the way I keep mine) I got the most bass into the cabin and wit the bass all the way up its just sick I think. I am 18 and thats just to much bass for me. From outside the car u kinda hear it less.
When the woofer fire towards the seat I get less bass and more things shake.
When firing towards the rear of the trunk ( Like ever system I seen) Good bass response but not as good as my first position but you can hear your car coming down the block( this is how its gonna sit for Spring break). Alos you ger less bass in the cabin.
OK all these are just my opions and observations, I might be wrong so dont hold me against it.
But I hardly am Wrong

My ears are not even close to 18 any more. In two days, I will be twice that but, I still love my tunes. I have since I was 16 and the thing to have was a pair of Jensen 6x9 coaxials.
The more I listen to the 10" L7, I think it will work. Right now, I have it laying in the middle of the trunk and firing up toward the stock sub. I do not have anything tweaked and the bass is pretty darn strong. I like the left corner idea. I think I can fit it in there and maybe still access the spare cover. I have to have room for the golf clubs as well.
I am going to try and get the pics posted tonight but, I just picked up my cable modem today and I have to get it installed and pull some cable into the attic tonight as well. The pics may have to wait but, I will get them this week.

Sweet my b-day is on the 29th. I am turning 19 but when I look in the mirror it look like i am turing 29.
are u gonna try to keep the sub box in there and still be able to lift the spare tire thing at the same time?
My sub box lifts right out I just unhook the clips on the sub box and done.
With the power u are gonna be sending to the L7 you can suprise alot of people when u open the trunk.
ok keep me updated.

I will do that. Pics are now on my computer. Just have to upload them onto my webpage tonight. Then, I will post the link. I took a couple of the kickpanels and the amp board. Also, of the Alpine 7893 with the aluminum face plate I made for it. I am looking at having it powder coated to match the dash pretty closely.
I am going to try and be able to lift the spare tire cover without removing the sub box. If nothing else, I can cut out the cover so it will lift up and out. I do not want the wife to have to worry about not being able to get to the spare. I am hoping to get some MDF and build the enclosure this weekend. I will post pics when I get them.
