Install DIY
I need help with my install.. I want to do it myself i have two 10 inch kenwoods [Model KFC-2505] and a kenwood amp [Model KAC 7201] and i just bought a Rockford amp kit. Comes with, Power wire, ground wire, AGU Fuse holder w/ 50 amp fuse, remote turn on lead, ring terminals with all the necessary hardware, and a dual twist signal cable with speaker wire. Is there an in depth DIY out there or is there somone who can walk me thru the install process, Thanks alot in advance
well, its a pretty general install. first start with the power wire.
to the left of your brake pedal there is a rubber boot. some people have fished the wire through it and gotten it to the engine bay. (personally, i couldnt so i drilled a hole to the left of it and fished the power that way).
next take apart your dash. http://www.abunchofcars.com/diy_page...er_console.htm
do you have a aftermarket headunit!? if yes, attach the rca cables to the sub input in the back of the headunit. if not, get the converter which allows you to tap the speaker wires and convert them into rca.(best buy carries them)
attach the remote wire to the blue wire in the back of the headunit.
run these wires behind the headunit and under the carpet to drivers side of the car.
next, remove all paneling along the drivers side of the car. carfully pull on the panels and they shoul come right up. run the wire under the carpet and bring the three wires to the rear cabin.
now, get a wire hanger and open it up. remove the spare tire cover in the trunk and you will see a slit in the corner of the trunk. insert the wire hanger into this space and have a friend pull it out of the other side where the reat seat back meets the pillar. tape the wires to the hanger and pull them thru the trunk.
find a good ground location in the trunk and ground your black wire. attach the ground, rca, remote, speaker and power wires to the amp in that order.( well dont have to be exact but make sure you ground first and power last)
run the speaker wire from the amp to the sub
last but not least, attach the power wire in the engine bay to the positive on the battery. i assume that the fosgate kit already has a inline fuse attached. if it doesnt make sure you attach it no less than a fott away from the battery.
that should be all. that was a hellllla long write up, gimme rep pts now
btw, since i was real nice and typed this up for ya, can ya do me a favor and get rid of the seatbelt pads man pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
if ya need anymore help, lemme know

I just bought a Fosgate wiring kit also(for up to 800 watts, 4 gauge cable). Why couldn't you use the hole that's already there? Do you have 4 gauge cable? (don't want to drill anything!!)
I've always run through the door sills but, do you see any problems running through the console under the carpet into the trunk, instead of along the door sills?
Where is a good ground in the trunk?
Sorry for all the questions, but I needed advice from someone who's done it on a TL. I've done all my other cars, but not the TL. I'm just trying to minimize problems when doing the install.
Thanks for any answers or input!

there is no problem with running the wire up the middle. only question, why? i mean, you would have to either remove the rear bench seat to get the wire to the trunk or, get it into the rear cabin and then get it to the rear sills anyways. so why do all that work?
on the left side of my 00tl there is this black bolt type thing. originally i jus took that out and conected ground there. but then i thought it was messin with my system (it was in my head) so i drilled a hole the left of it, stripped the paint and bolted it there.
PM me for more info

well then. i never actually thought about attachin the converter rite to the rear speakers. hmmm, interesting. im not sure if that would work. in theory i see no problems.
but, ima tell ya how to do it my way cus i know it'll work....
ight so you get this converter rite, its this black box, on one side u have your rca input and on the other you have speaker wire. so, what you do is take apart ur dash. connect the wired from the box to the wires in the back of your headunit. if i remember rite, the purple and green wires back there are for your rear speakers. so just tap into these. next attach your rca cables to the rca side of the box. now attach your remote wire to the blue wire behind the headunit. now run all this to the back of the car.
umm, i think thas all u asked. hit it bak

ight i got it, all i gota do is just strip the wire a little bit and twist them rite? and which wire is my remote?
oh yeah btw since we have same amp.. kinda i have 800 watt series next to the ground on the amp theres another one called pcon.. whats that??

well i wouldnt jus strip its. cus then u gotta tape it. tha shit gets messy after awhile cus it heats up. there are these lil clips that cut through the plastic wire and crimp into both wires. its alot cleaner and less messy.
remote behind ur headunit is a blue wire. i think the wire that the amp kit gives you is blue also.
the only wires you need to connect to the amp is ground, power, remote, speaker wires and rca. i think pcon is a bypass for the RCA cables. instead of running rca's you run speaker wires to the headunit and you dont need a converter. but if you ever decide to get a aftermarket headunit your kinda screwed if you go this route.
stick to the RCA and converter plan

radio shack? home depot? lowes? its so hard to xplain. its like. a base, n then sumthin like two doors. n the wires sit in between in two grooves. and when you close the "doors" there is a metal clip in it that cuts through the plastic and connects the two wires.

what!? the remote wire is to be connected directly to the headunit's blue wire. what the hell is a remote trigger on the converter lol!?

wow. what the hell did u do?!
hmmmm, check the fuse. u prob blew it? are u sure ur using the same fuse that came with the amp kit? make sure your groun is good. make sure u strip the paint before you ground it. make sure your remote wire is connected right.
