Install ?

This weekend i'm gonna install a 5 channel Alpine amp and Boston Acoustics pros 6.5 inch seperates. And 6.5 coax in the rear door's. I'm gonna use soundgate converter's so I can keep the factory H/U. My question is, do I still need to bypass the factory EQ, In this type of install?

no I believe the only reason you need to bypass the internal EQ is if you are using new speakers with the stock HU and amps...so you should be all good, I hope that amp has lots of juice cause those Bostons need it -especially the components.

If you are using the factory head unit, you still have to work around the eq somehow.

I believe you will have to bypass it or tap the signal before it reaches the eq. Hopefully, someone who has done this can help you better.

Davey,

Yes, you absolutely have to bypass the eq in an install such as this. Its not difficult to do since its already been figured out by a few people on this board. Unfortunately, most of the info is unavalible since the board was updated, but luckily I found a wiring diagram on my computer. Have a look at the pic below. You need to tap these three wires together..

Let me know if you have anymore questions..

Do you need to bypass the EQ if you are just hooking up a sub amp? If not, can I use the wires at the back of the car near the amp? And are they line level, or do I need to use a LOC?

Sub amp install does not require bypass. Yes the sub amp signal wires are line level, so all you have to do is connect an RCA connector to them. The wires you are looking for are a twisted pair in a brown sheath.

Good luck

I tried to hook some RCAs to the wires you mentioned above, and I can't seem to get any output from the AMP. I checked the amp with another input (CD player) and it worked fine. Is there something I don't konw?? I am using an RF 501BD amp, and nothing is coming out!!

HELP!! :

Please Help!!!

I just took the 97 tl to "Jerk It Silly". They installed my Infinity Kappa 10 in a ported box and my Pioneer Class D 1000w amp. The sub is run at 2 ohm. The amp at 2 ohm pushes 600 w max. I have an LOC coming out of the one of the Polk690's in the rear dash. out of the LOC there are rca's into the amp. Power is run, remote and ground are connected. Fuse is in.

IT makes very little sound if any. And when it is audible it sounds very muffled. All the equipment is new. Have I (they) done something incorrectly
????

I am squarely with AcuraX2 on the "rip it out" method. That's what I ended up doing after getting everything work work with the OEM HU.

Anyway, yes, you do need to bypass the EQ if you don't want the treble boosted (for mains) or part of the bass missing (for subs).

You can pull the preamp signal from the small black harness, or just feed it back in if you want to use speaker-level converters. (I'd go with the first).

Most of the threads for doing this are linked to from the sticky thread "comprehensive data..." at the top.

I got less bass when I was using my LOC at the preamp signal. Once I wired the LOC to the wires going into the rear sub, I got more bass, except when I turned my volume up past halfway, then bass was pretty much gone. I also did the eq bypass, but I noticed that on the B4-B8 wire cut, the B8 wire looked black to me, not blue, could I have done this wrong, and ahve it affecting my aftermarket sub output?
