How the Navi touchscreen works

This was covered a while ago, but for those who missed it here's just a little trivia.

The actual SCREEN is NOT touch sensitive. There are actually many infrared xmitters that pulse around the screen which are located behind the red plastic bezel. Opposite each of these transmitters is a receiver that senses when it is getting light and when it is not. When you place your finger( or any other fairly blunt object) in the path of the light the unit senses Both X & Y coordinates and tells the Navi which button your finger is over.

Anyway, I was bored and grabbed my sony camcorder w/night shot and took a peek at Navi with the nightshot on and off. I fugured the infrared would be constant beams of light going across the screen, but they actually seem to pulse rapidly. One thought that just came to mind was maybe it's the phasing of the camcorder making it flicker, kind of like what you see when you try to viedotape a computer monitor(crt)

Oh well, just something for you guys to chew on

Iggy

Could this explain the phenomenon of why the touch-screen isn't very responsive when in direct sunlight (like when the sunroof visor is open and the sun is beating down directly on the screen?

She was looking over my shoulder as I was typing. Thank God she still has a sense of humor in between contractions.
