I'm looking to replace the front and rear door 6.5" speakers and the 6x9's on the rear deck on my 07 TSX w/ navi to clean up the sound a bit (no amp for now, I'm going to take baby steps). I recently stopped by a small audio shop in my area that I had read great things about online. I spoke with the owner a bit and he recommended a set of JBLs all the way around.

I'm no audio guru but I do understand the basics of car audio. I know this question is a bit vague and may depend on certain models or product lines, but in general, how are JBL car speakers? Would you rate them as excellent/good/average/sub-par/poor quality car speakers? Anything I should know about them? Any and all input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

Low - mid quality, depending on model. Still better than stock. I wouldn't spend much money on them though.


You're not going to notice much improvement over anything without amping the system though. The biggest weakness of the TSX system is the stock amp.

 

Really? I wasn't aware that JBL was that poorly regarded in the car audio segment. Is it that they use inferior materials? I know, like most other things, speaker selection is a matter of personal taste, but what would you (or anybody else who wants to chime in) recommend?

In the end, I may end up adding an amp as well, but I want to see how satisfied I am with just replacing the speakers.
