how in the hell? power cable

I've been trying for the past 2 hours or so... to push the power cable for my amp through the rubber grommet..and it is NOT working at all... that hole is soo tight, i've gone through pain trying to push it through.. bending my fingers and tearing up my knuckles...

anyone have another method? or a cheaters way to get the 4-gauge wire through to underneath the driverside dash?

need help badly! thanks,

Did you pop the middle piece out of the grommet? It's pretty easy to slide it through.

how do you slide it through?

am i supposed to twist the middle piece? and should i pool toward the front of the car..or push towards the back..
i think alot of my difficulty has to do with the manuverability of my hands...

i know the subs will be great once i get this power cable through..
more help would be appreciated again. thanks..

I carefully cut a small hole in the side of the rubber grommet/boot to slide the wire thru. May also cut the wire at a diagonal to form a small point may help. Use a small amount of liquid dish soap on the wire end to make pulling easier. I pushed the wire to the engine bay from cabin. Good luck.

this is what i did too...that grommet that the large factory harness goes through has alot of room to be cut again, just do it carefully, and my 2awg pwr wire fit just fine

Ha ha ha pitiful!!! Just pitiful!! I give you the cable...and you can't get it through the grommet!!! Nah I'm kidding man. You can drop by my place and I'll do it...but all you do is use a little soap and water...or WD40, but preferably soap and water...or hey I've even used Sex Wax...and then just push it on through. Just remember Jason, when you're trying to push a thick thing through a small hole and the hole is too tight, try using lubricant

Lightbulb

Use silicone lubricant instead of messy dish soap that will get inside your dash. A small cut in the rubber boot/grommet will work.

That messy soapy water dries...while silicone lube not only doesn't dry, but also attracts nasty dust and dirt...and looks like a nasty hairball a few months later.

I didn't have that problem - just don't use that much, just on the tip.

Ah...4:18 AM...so you got it in 14 mins ago eh? Heh heh...finally got your remote wire done? Yeah that grommet is a total b|tch...Ford's got it down...4 grommets spaced out from the floor the the rear of the dash...Acura? 2 grommets, barely accessible.

Oh and

You failed to mention the stupid girl interlocked her door with yours while I was upside down looking up under your dash, and I came up and pulled your door to before I realized what the idiot had done Don't go giving me a bad name now jyang411, I spent 2.5 hours on your lazy butt for free

That's why you're supposed to put the seat backrest on before you replace the seat bottom, so you can replace the bolts.

I did...

I did replace the backrest first.... in opposite order as i removed them...

I couldn't fit the most left screw in... the other one... i just can't deal with because it's inbetween the seats.
it's sitting there now... if i get bored enough i'll put it in.

The subs sound great!

Now that I completed the install, the subs power for hmm.. 20 minutes then the amp shuts off.. bleh.. i guess i'm going to have to give this amp back to a friend... and save up for better stuff.. rockford fosgate,... or possibly phoenix gold.

You have to remove the rear seat to access the rear stock Bose amp. By splicing the blue wire, you can get a remote signal to your new amp. Also, by taking out the rear seat, it's much easier to run power cable to your trunk by threading it from the side up and then through the metal to the trunk.

It only takes hmm.. 20 minutes to take out the rear seat?.. it's a cinch..so don't be bothered by task..

jyang411

time to save for a new amp.. =DDD
