I've decided on a PPI PCX-480 amp for my JL Audio XR650CXi speakers. I realize that im underpowering my speakers, but i don't have a large budget to work with. What are your opinions on this amp? Thanks for any input.

 

I have not used any PPI amps since the Art Series but, I here nothing but good about them. I think it would be great amp for you. 80 x 4 should work nice.

 

PPI is the only ones i like the most. I still have the art series A404 4 x 50. Love it. Far as clean they are real good. Very clean amps. They are priced so high though. that's the only thing i hated about them.

My friend from high school lives on a base in viginia beach. He came down not too long ago in his truck that he also uses for crank it up contests. He runs all PPI amps on mb quart highs and Four JL W3 12's. Back glass is now plexiglass. His high end amp is the same one you are wanting the 4 x 80. sounded great. But wiring problems with two alternators and 3 batteries caused him to catch the big ppi amp on fire. so he got a new one(worked at a stereo shop) The big 2.5 foot amp though clean is being taken out and going with something else. The reason he wanted to get rid of the big PPI was because they told him he could use that amp for crank it up contest, but with db's he looking at he needs to go with a power amp. PPI is plenty of power, but their amps are built for quality and perfect sound. That is the only reason he is getting rid of it. He wants db's somewhere in the upper 160's. which he is very close right now with 4 woofers.
