Honda Accord System

My buddy wants a speaker upgrade in his accord (2005 non navi, o dual climate controls) and wants to keep his factory amp and HU. What speakers would be good as drop in replacements for it. I figured you guys would know what is best since the TSX uses the same components. BTW, I helped him put in the USA SPEC HON2Y adapter in today and it was really easy

Generally the 30 dollar pioneers etc from wal-mart will sound much better on a stock system than some 200 dollar speakers will. Make sure he gets coaxials (2-way or 3-way) Also, the cheap Pioneers probably won't have a fitment problem.

kind of depends how much mounting depth he has... literallly speaking, all speakers are drop in, but most need spacers so that when you roll down your windows, it doesnt hit the magnet.

well, i didn't mean literal drop in replacements, he wants something that won't cost him to much (has budget of 500 for front and rear speakers) and will give better highs, mids and some lows, and better clarity at higher volumes. What are good speakers to go with.

it would be pointless dropping 500$ and wanting to keep the stock amp. With a 500$ budget for all speakers, say about 200-250 (which is already way up there)of that going to the front stage, the stock amp wont be able to keep up with it. The stock amp probably wouldnt even be able to keep up with a 150$ speaker.

The stock amp puts out probably somewhere between 25-50w rms at the most, most speakers ranging from 90$+ recommends at least 75w pure rms.

In a nutshell: If he has 500$ to spend, just save up like 300-500$ and he can have a near top of the line setup. Or he can spend that 500 and get something not bottom of the spectrum, nor the top of it

Just throwing some highly respected companies for the high quality speakers up there...
Focal, Rainbow CMX, RE xxx, Image Dynamic xs, Hertz
and some a little cheaper
Phoenix Golds, MB Quartz, Infinity, Pioneer Premier, Polk Audio

Uh... yeah.

With the stock system youre probably getting 35 RMS. 35 or even 45 running through those speakers mentioned will have almost no improvement at all. (as far as SQ)

A pair of 30 dollar speakers in a stock system will blow away a pair of 500 dollar focals in this application. Find out the RMS and match it. The wattage of your amp should be no less than 75% of your speaker wattage. If you can find a 250 dollar speaker with 35 max RMS, fine..

If this guy has 500 bucks to spend, i urge him to buy a 4 channel amp, some components up front, and 2-way coaxials in the rear. Good luck

What you need are speakers designed for direct OEM replacements that run off a stock deck.

There is no use installing cheap "150w" speakers in a 20w system. You will get no bass and the volume will be low. Even the stock speakers would sound better since they are designed to run on low watts.

What you want are 25-35wRMS speakers with high sensitivity.
The Boston S Series may do the trick (They are about 50wRMS though): http://www.bostonacoustics.com/car/c...4&family_id=23

Note that the TSX has a factory Amp, whereas the Accords dont (well not in AUS at least), so you may find that the Honda HU may only be outputting something like 10wRMS.

To find out if the HU has a factory amp, you need to remove the gearstick cover and front "CD holder" console, then look under the HU. You should see a small black Amp (TSX), or nothing but wires (Accord).
