Speakers, the smaller they are the higher sound they produce and vice versa. This is in general because the material that used to make a speaker plays a big role as well.
1. Tweeters are little speakers that can produce high frequency sound (treble). If you feed a normal speaker line into a tweeter without going through a high pass filter (generally called cross-over) then the tweeter is a goner.
2. Sound is basically divided into 3 categories: high, mid and low. A speaker should be optimized to produce a sound within a certain range (depends on material used, size, core, ect.) That's why you see components (seperate mid and high) are more expensive then coaxial (all in one). And that's also why the Bose speakers in our cars are just POS.
3. It is definately possible for a speaker to produce bass. A subwoofer is just a speaker that produces sound with low frequencies. If you are talking about stock size speakers, look for 6x9s with low frequency response (20Hz) and capable of handle high power (rms and peak).
4. Each channel in your amp can power a speaker. 2 channel amp power 2 speakers, same for 4 and mono. However, current amps can be bridged or paralled loaded to get more power out of the amp. If you bridge an amp, you use 2 channel to power a single speaker, generally speaking, you should get double the power, however, in reality, you get about 50% to 75% extra kick. Paralled load is connecting 2 speakers into one channel. This way the impedance load to your amp is halved and the power to the speakers are doubled. Be sure the amp is capable to be bridge or it will get very hot or burn out (cheap amp only ... good amp should have thermal protection.)
I hope I answer your questions. Good luck exploring the car stereo world and dont waste so much money on it. I know I did
