I sold my Eclipse AV-8022 just because someone gave me a great price for it. I need some opinions on buying another piece and wanted to see what you all thought.

I am either going with:

A) A double din screen, Kenwood DDX or possibly Eclipse.

B) A single din DVD player tuner, Alpine 7996, Rockford, Pioneer, JVC, and then put in an overhead flip down screen or put screens in the visors.

C) A single din flip out screen. Last resort and it would be something touch screen.

The order I put is kinda the order I think I would go with but, still undecided. I kinda like the single din DVD player idea and adding screens but, other than the Alpine, are the others good units. The Rockford unit looks good and it plays everything. Panasonic has one with the little fold out center channel that looks like a great piece as well.


Anyway, let me know what you would do. Total price will have to be under $1k. Install I do myself so the price is for equipment only.

 

interesting conundrom. I, too, am in the same boat but I am trying to keep the total price at under 500 ( a little easier given my profession and all) but I haven't the foggiest as to what I what to do. I guess the big question is whether you want the unit to do navigation as well. If you do then the kenwood/eclipse is the way to go. If not then there are quite a few options. The only way i would go if you are looking for something without a flip out screen is the alpine dva7996. It is by far the cream of the crop and rightfully so. the only down side is it is expensive. Retail is still set at 1200 (i forget what it is at cost). The pioneer unit is decent, but the aesthetics suck. Personally i haven't messed with anything Rockford makes so i couldn't tell you if it was any good, but I'd be lying if i said i don't have any doubts about their products. As for panasonic, well tradtionally they make good stuff, but the last few I've used have been crap. It's almost like they are bad out of the box.

as a last resort, if you are going flip out screens, here is the order i would go with. Avic-N2 (should be out soon), IVA D300 or d900 (either one), Kenwood (great unit, great reviews, but the non-traditional motorization scares me in regards to it's durability)

 

personally i would say wither the kenwood ddx-7015 or the eclipse avx-2494... now choosing between the two... that has me too.. my girlfriend wants one of these units and i can not choose which one i want to get her.. i really want to sit down and read the manuals on both to see which one has the features and user functions i like.. but i really dont think you could go wrong with either one...

Shawhite...how much can you get that Eclipse for? You had said about half off or something? I love Eclipse and always will but, the double dins are pricey. Even used or on ebay they are over $1k.
