help another voltage problem

well I've been messing with my set up trying to figure out why my hu keeps shutting off at high volumes. yesterday I wired my red and yellow wires from my hu together. it seemed to solve the problem. I just have to manually turn off the hu. now the problem is it seems I am having a draw on the ele system as when I go to start the car it is very sluggish after sitting over night. also seeing a dimming in headlights . now my ho alt is good and I have a extra batt in the trunk hc600 and my front batt is good also.and 0 wire all around and big 3 is done in 0 any ideas. it has to be hard wiring the hu my amp shuts off when I turn the hu off but I wonder if there is still a draw.ideas????

are you running a battery isolator for the rear?

Here's probably what's going on: the batts don't have equal resting voltages. So when you turn the car off, the battery with the lower resting voltage is going to try to steal charge from the other batt. So the lesser batt will steal enough charge for it to be the higher charged bat, then the other batt will try and steal the charge back. In this process, you lose small amounts of charge each time... This process continues all night (and any other time the batts aren't receving charge) and so they'll slowly kill each other... An isolator should fix that problem, like Chris said...

Was your hu skipping, and that's why it was shutting off? That happens quite a bit in cars deep into the 140's... Try holding the hu in your hand with it wired the regular way... If it stops shutting off, you've got your problem...

This new connection is probably causing some devices that are normally not powered when the car is off to stay on (they are getting power via the constant power). This may be your amp and/or other things on the switched power line...

Can you make a diagram of how you have this set up?

well i have the red + and the constant wired together behind the radio. my amp does shut off. i rewired it back after ripping out the hu. I decided to take off the face plate and see if that helps.

I think this is causing the problem. Anything else that is connected to that switch now has power all the time. Turning your HU off manually would not turn of any of the other unintentionally powered devices.

Is this a stock HU or aftermarket? What size fuse is going on the power wire to the radio?

Which constant power and switch power have you twisted together? Have you made this connection across the vehicle wiring? Or have you connected both the switched and constant power lines on the HU both to constant power on the vehicle?

just the red and yellow behind the hu using a wiring harness. this morning my batt was fine I took off the faceplate and seemed to not loose voltage. and now sincehooking it back up it is shutting off again after hitting. blah this problem is getting old. I don't see why it keeps happening.

Have you put a DMM on the wires to check and make for damn sure it's a voltage problem?

hmm... Have you tried running a power and ground wire directly from the battery to power the hu? Just take some speaker wire or whatever, add a fuse right behind the hu, and a switch, and try that... Might be something in the factory wiring...
