Heat Problem!
Heat Problem!
I am looking for some suggestions and opinions. Basically I am having a problem with my Kicker zx1000.1 cutting off due the heat. The amp is located in my trunk along with another Kicker zx650.4 and a 12L7. The 1000x1 is hidden behind the 650.4, here is a link to my setup

Since my car is parked outside and it’s been hot for the last couple of days if I play it for about an hour or so it starts to cut off and on. I know it’s the thermal protection because of the heat. So I have a couple of questions that maybe you guys can help me out with. The first question is if I get a fan will it really help the situation out? Maybe 2 fans? The second question is if yes where and what kind of fan to get? I basically know that I need 12v DC fans but I am not sure what kind and where because I don’t want to use a little 3" fan designed for a computer. Ok now my last question is what other options do I have? Thanks

Yes I would put a fan in it. If you can put 2 in, on pushing the air across the amp and a second pulling the air. (If possible) The fans you want to use are a BRUSHLESS 12v fan. Make sure that it is brushless or you might get engine noise or static from the fan. Also how are you going to wire it? Have them on a toggle switch? Or maybe of an accessory wire so they come on when you system is on... just an idea I did both I got my power from a wire that is hot when the radio is on and put a toggle switch to control the fans, but if I leave the switch on it turns off when I turn off my key.

I have two of these in a push-pull configuration. Kinda small, relatively quite, and operate above 12V DC. I haven't had any thermal shutdown problems that they solved, as I installed them from the get go, but my amps are enclosed in a relatively tight space and no issues to date. Not saying that they're the ones you should get, just providing some information.
