Headunit help!!

So I just got a new JVC double din radio. Got the metra wiring harness as well. Matched all the colors up. Plugged te radio in and it worked fine. But when I turned my lights on at night the dash lights went out and I had no parking lights. I uninstalled radio and now my lights work fine except for when I use my high beams. The dash lights will go out again until I turn them off. Anyone have any idea of what I did wrong?

Don't just go by the colors, if I remember there were one or two that didn't match.

go to the12volt.com to get a wiring diagram and match it up with the metra instructions.

I have a feeling I know EXACTLY what it is. U hooked up wrong orange wire for illumination. There's orange and orange/white. The wiring harness for the radio usually has orange/white on it I believe so it's easy to mess this up. Just switch them and u should be ok. If
I remember correctly you have orange/wh to orange/wh and that will blow a fuse for the dash lights etc.

I did same thing in my odyssey van and almost did it a second time after they stole the radio and I was putting in a new one. If you don't have anyone to ask ya just give it a try lol. But a so called "expert" from crutchfield actually told me twist the 2 together. Yea thanks a lot buddy there goes my last 15 amp fuse....

Hook orange/white from headunit to solid orange on metra/scosche harness. U need to hook it up for dash lights so just gotta swap it. Tape off the end of the wire u unhook as u wont need it. What's sucks for me is I wired my harness all extra pretty. Soldered all joints. Heat shrink cable ties etc then had to rip it up to fix same problem.

You have to buy a 12v relay and fool the wire. Use this video as a reference:

Nope just ground that bastard so you can Use DVDs at all Times, I ground it to the HU Ground cable and worked like a charm! That cable only wants a ground point when you have the Gear in PARK, Out of Park and you wont have a ground = Wont Play DVDs.

If you want to cean install that Cable you will need to Tap in the Gear Lever cables IMO too much hassle....

A lot of in dash DVD players won't work if it's grounded when it turns on. I use a relay turned on by the headunit remote wire to activate the relay and ground the parking brake wire after the HU is on.
