Head Unit in TSX - Facotry install kit?

OK, in the proccess of investigating/installing a head unit via an AUX3 adapter. (I will only run a pre-amp output in to the factory HU AUX in) Does anybody know if I can use the 08B06-SEC-210( mp3/tape mount kit) install kit to mount a standard size head unit? It looks like it will be the right size, but I'd hate to drop almost a hundred dollars on the kit if it will be a waste of time.

That was my first thought. The mp3 kit. Isn't it like $175 or something? I think it would fit. There are few people here that have done it, but i'm not sure what they used to mount it.

Some people have mentioned that there is a space on each side of the aftermarket head unit. I guess the cut-out for the mp3/tape player is a little wider than a conventional din unit.

I can get the install kit for 70 bucks online.

Is this something that is a deal breaker? Is it just the opening on the player pannel, or will the bracket be useless too?

Deal breaker? That's up to you. There is a gap to the left & right of the unit - and the bottom, but that's harder to see. The side gaps are 10 mm, which is quite noticable, the bottom, 2 mm. Here's a pic - I cut & painted some ABS plastic to fill the gaps, it looks okay I think, but i can't match the factory pattern (trim panel looks more gray than black in the photo due to the flash).

I did some more reserch, and ordered the Kit. I don't think the gap will be an issue at all. It looks like I'll be purchasing the same alpine Head Unit as well. Can't wait! I looks like I won't have all the parts until the end of next week. I have the AUX3 Already (Can't recomend Chumbo.com enough) I'll get the Audio Sub-Harness next monday, and the Install Kit by the end of next week. I'm planning on Installing the Ipod adapter in the Alpine, and Using the second input on the Aux3 for an input under the arm rest.

Is this going into an '05 or '06 tsx? I'm just wondering if the aux was done away with and replaced with the stereo jack or if there's yet another aux input.

If you don't mind me asking, are you using the stock speakers and no external amplification? If not, why pipe the Alpine out to the stock in? If so, why go through the trouble just to hook-up an ipod or is there some other reason?

Yes, Stock Speakers and amp. I'm doing it for mp3 CD playback mostly. Ipod integration second, and possibly (If I can budget it) maybe DVD/NAV. I'm thinking about one of the Eclipse units too. (They offer pre-fader pre-outs) The Alpine AVIC-D1 loos like it's got a 300 dollar rebate now. I might install a lower end head unit and wait a year for a DVD/nav unit w/ Bluetooth integration... We'll see what CES has to offer this year!
