I have an aftermarket alpine deck, this years model.
Alpin ejust came out with an IPOD interface that will actually charge your ipod and access your songs directly from the stereo itself. You can control the ipod and look through ur music, doing quicksearch and other features on your alpine head unit.
There really isn't any other way. Our stock stereo's don't have any aux inputs.
Only way is FM mod.

What do you mean our headunit doesn't have a aux input? Where have you been? I thought you were the "CAR WIRING EXPERT"?
Better change that ASAP!

Icelink also makes one that will operate through the factory radio controls and steering wheel controls and also charges it.

what model alpine? is the interface a seperate part (icelink..) or is it integrated into all new alpine aux ins?

I just bought an Alpine CDA-9827, and I have to replace the headunit for my brother in his car as well while he's overseas, and he has an iPod.

that's the same hu i have and it works flawlessly. i had to update the version software of my ipod to 2.2 but it was a no brainer as well. for $100, i definitely think it's worth it. less wires to run, ipod is constantly hidden in the arm console, search and play functions of the ipod can be accessed via the hu. song titles and artists, albums all visible via the hu. took me 15 minutes to install too.

My bad, i totally forgot we had an aux in for external changer, which u can buy an interface for it from blitzsafe for aux in.

But trust me, that alpine interface the KCA420I is an awsome interface.

With any this years alpine models head units that have AI-NET compatibility and QUICKSEARCH its awsome.

Thanks for the advice guys...has anyone been using the Alpine iPod interface for a while and can attest to the quality of it? Ive read some other posts on iPod sites stating that the interface is too slow and only allows the first 255 artists or songs to come up...they also state that you cannot scroll quickly through your entries, maybe only 1 title per second...have you experienced these things? Im sure the sound quality is the best but it seems people arent getting the best interface they would have expected from alpine...any comments would be appreciated...

I don't know about this Alpine interface. I read some reviews on ipodlounge.com and there's more than a few peeps bitchin' about the slowness of the interface when scrolling. Also at night, you lose 2 lines of info on the 9835 b/c the thing dims at night. I was tempted to buy the iva d300 for my Z but now I don't think I will. I did find this little item though and it has me tempted:

It works w/ our steering wheel controls too, which would be great.
