I'm running a hifonics brutus I picked up for under 200 about 5 years ago. Still going strong...1500 watts RMS w/a 1 ohm load.
And caps have their place in this world! There was a time when everyone used and recommended them, no?
Anyway, I've got one and I've got no juice issues so I leave well enough alone.

Rockstar, yes there was a time for caps, before batt technology caught up in terms of discharge rate. Now that batts discharge current almost as fast as a cap does, but yet they have hundreds of time the reserve capacity, there's almost no reason to run a cap anymore. One benefit they do have in a pure SQ world, however, is to eliminate any ground noise in the system.

+1 for Hifonics, good and cheap, very powerful as well.

If you're running a smaller one (<10-20 farad), they can actually do more harm than good, just by the nature of their design. They discharve very quickly, but when they lose all of their charge, they draw charge from the alt/batt combo in order to recharge. This current that's going to the cap can't go to your amp, which means it's then short on voltage. I know I've posted that info somewhere else on here, probably multiple times, but just a heads up.

It's a fact of the design. The plates are very close together (closer than a batt) which allows them to discharge faster. But like I said, they have nowhere near the reserve, which is what prolonged current draw applications (car audio, for example) need.

Sorry... My bad... I've been stupid tired recently. School's been a bitch, and work ain't much easier. Plus trying to get the car done in the next couple weeks, it ain't easy...
