Front Door Speakers, Again

Well, I have my choices narrowed down for the front and need some opinions. I listed the prices I am looking at paying:

Boston Pro 6.5 $300
Diamond M661 $225
Kicker RS6 $150

The Kicker's are about half the cost of the Boston's and the Diamond's are right in between. The Kicker's and Boston's allow coaxial type mounting. I do not have a problem paying the $300 for the Boston's but, are they twice the speaker the Kicker is. I mean, I could buy the RS6 and RS5 for the cost of the Boston. I need all opinions.

humm this is a good question... acurax2 i have the boston pros in my front doors right now... in order to fit them you will definately have to do some cutting... the basket on these things are big and then they have this huge terminal on the side.... i also have the diamond audios m661 in my bedroom... if you are interested i will sell them to you for $220 shipped.... the diamonds were my 1st choice and to be honest i think that they sound better than the boston pros... the kickers uhhhh well they are decent mid grade speakers but will not compair with the diamonds.... the bostons they are expensive and really the only reason i used them was because of the axis mounting they provided.. I would have to say go with diamond audio all the way...

I was hoping you would respond. I knew you had two of the sets I was looking at. About the only reason I picked the Kicker was the coaxial mounting option and they were pretty cheap. I think, with the Diamond, I could make a bracket and mount the tweeter in front of the mid. I have seen it done quite a bit and making the bracket would be no problem. Are your Diamonds brand new? Did you ever hook them up? I might be interested in them. I have found a couple of sets for around that same price that are brand new in the box. Let me know and thanks for the reply.

diamonds are brand new in the facotry box... i never had the liberty of hooking them up but i did hold one up to the door to see if it will fit.. but other than that it has been in the factory box... depending on the shipping i might even be able to go a couple of dollar lower... i did use my diamonds in the rears and i love them... i have the m361I and they sound almost as good as those bostons in the front... of course the bostons have a little more mid bass since they are components... I have tried several brands and diamond audio always seems to work for me... but that is my personal preference... if you are interested in the m661 drop me an email at shad__b@hotmail.com and we can discuss a good price... and if you want i can even send you a couple of pictures...

I would say Diamond Audio also. I might be lookin at new components soon to and I might go with Alpine Spx 177a. I think I have a alpine obsession.

THis is the way I think I see it in the future.

Alpine inside the car.
JL in the trunk of the car.

i love alpine headunits and all but there are components out there that are way better than alpine... personally i would have loved to have went with diamond inside the car and the jl sub in the trunk but things did not work out that way.... so i went with bost acoustics instead...

Just to throw my $0.02 in here, "cutting" the doors requires nothing more than tin snips. The sheetmetal is very thin. No power tools are required to make an appropriately sized hole for a given speaker. It's really not that big of a deal to do it.

The bigger deal is concerning the depth of the speaker so you'll be able to clear the window. I had to use a 3/4" and a 1/4" spacer to safely mount the 6.5 ID Chameleons in the front doors. It took a lot longer to make the spacers than to cut the door to fit them.

I know this doesn't really answer the question but it may prove as food for thought.

I don't think the DA's are in the same league as the Chameleons but out of your selection, they'd be my choice.

I have thrown the Kickers out of the mix. I just do not think I would be happy with them. I am down to Diamond M661 or Boston Pro's. I have heard the Pro's and I think they are every bit as good as the Chameleons. I have always wanted a set of Boston's. I am just trying to decide if I want to spend $300 plus or around $220. I love everything about the Boston's and I really know nothing about the Diamond's, other than people's personal opinions. I am leaning toward the Bostons and will probably decide in the next day or so.

if you have heard the bostons and like the way they sound i would have to say go with them... but i dont think that you could go wrong with either speaker...

AcuraX2 I would definitely go with the Boston Pro series because I am having them on my CL and it sounds great with the JL 300/4 amp. The nice thing about the Boston that if you want to turn the volume a little loud, they won't hurt your ear and not alot of distortion.
