Which friggin wire do I tap for the Radar Detector?

I've been poking around the fusebox trying to find a switched 12v for my Escort 8500....but it seems that most of the wires coming from the fusebox drops voltage (to +3v!) when i try to put the tap in place....

Which friggin' wire do I tap into for a switched 12v?

TIA

Just go right to the wire harness coming from the steering column....the wire you need is black with a yellow stripe.

Do you mean the black/yellow that I see coming from three different places on the fuse-box, or actually find a specific wire coming from the steering column? I have an '03 TL-S, and didn't see a black/yellow when I looked under the steering column.

Thanks,
John

It comes right out of the steering column and is like a 14 - 16 guage wire...it is bundled with a white, yellow, and black wire with a yellow stripe, all the same relative size, and are inside the smooth rubber tube coming from the steering column. You will need to split it open with a razor blade.

Thumbs up

I tapped into the wire that powers the inside rear view mirror.
It is switched and no wires hanging down. Just remove the dome lights to access the wire hareness.Works great on the wifes 02 TL.

That was what I was looking for. I wish that I had been using my V1 yesterday when I got nailed going 66 in a 45! My first ticket in 12 years.
