Fog/Driving Lights

I know there are several people in the forum that have been able to perform successful modifications to their fog/driving lights and have a few questions.

It is my goal to either convert them to true fog (yellow) lights or possibly install brighter bulbs.

I am not very handy and am wondering how difficult it was to install relays to make the lights work without the headlights being on.

Additionally, I have the following questions:

1. Will the fog/driving lights (with relay installed) remain on with the high beams?

2. Will the fog/driving lights automatically turn off with the rest of the lights after 15 seconds?

3. Has anyone had any fuse related problems as a result of this mod?

Thanks in advance.

Wow, thanks Iggy. I guess I did not look hard enough for the answer.

Has anyone been able to get around the lights turning off when the high beams are on?

Nope,
And I think the main reason is for legal reasons..

I'd give ya more but I'm trying to put together my pics from my install. It sounds REALLY NICE!

EmuMessenger ,

On the left of the screen is a search button. Type in "fog" and you will be amazed how much info there is covering this and anything else you wanted to know about your car is there.

Not without some extensive rewiring. The hi-beams are ground-side switched, which means that when the hi-beam switch is thrown, the ground is made and the hi-beams come *on*. The ground for the fogs and highs is the same, and it's a toggle so when the ground is applied to the hi-beams to make the circuit, it is lifted from the fogs to break the circuit. You would have to manually ground the fog circuit separately in order to make this mod work--not nearly as easy as the fog mod. Plus, in almost every jurisdiction, having fogs and hi-beams on together are illegal.

I guess I shouldn't have my fogs, HID, and high beams on at the same time, huh?

Patrick, I guess you are saying you have successfully completed the all 3 on at a time mod?

Anyone in or near Philadelphia successfully install the fog/driving light relay to make them work with the parking lights?

Nice, I have learned a lot about the fog/driving lights today.

Does anyone recommend a good drop-in yellow light? I see some people are using the PIAA bulbs.

I am not very handy when it comes to cars, so I need something pretty easy.

It would be great to have HID fogs, but that is way over my head!

Canadian TL is different than US TL. My installer hooked up my fogs in such a way that all you need to have is at least the parking lights on (side blinkers and brake light lit) to use my fogs. My high beam is independent of the HID, and can turn both high beam and HID together (this is from the factory). Oh, and our Canadian TL comes with day time running lights. So yup, I can have all 3 on at the same time!

Thanks WiLz.

We have the same car excluding all the mods I cannot install.

Yesterday, I read what I believe to be all of sixspdbrd's posts regarding yellow lights, but I cannot determine if he stuck with the yellow bulbs or went to white with yellow film on top of the lenses.

It seems all the really modded cars are on the west coast.

i think he has yellow fog lights, but they looked white from the front, so he stuck on yellow film to make them more yellow

Take a look at the Philips Allweather bulbs. It looks like PIAA ion crystals and it will give you that yellow effect. Not sure if they are brighter than stock, but it's only like $30 a pair.

Sounds great. I did a search for Philips All Weather on this site and did not find anything.

Has anyone had any experience with these bulbs? For that matter, any pictures?

The Philips all weather has a light yellow/ rainbow tint to the bulb. Try K-Mart i saw them there... It's not yellow yellow...but more yellow then regular halogens. The best way is the yellow film method.

Thanks.

I think I will probably pass then. I do not want a rainbow light on my car. For some reason it makes me think about many vehicles in this area that are reminiscent of white, grain type products, if you know what I mean. :yack:
