Finished Pics of AVIC-N1

I finally had time to get around to posting my finished pics of the pioneer N1. Please take a look at my sight: http://web.njit.edu/~mxl4729/other/tsx/

Head unit screen part 1: is the building of the dash mount I made for the N1 and mounting all the components

Screen part 2: is the finished product all painted and installed. This page includes many shots at different angles including open and closed. One and day and night pic.

All together you are looking at about $5 in parts and about 2 hours total of work.
About an hour of fabricating the wood and making good fit, and another hour of bondo, sanding, priming and painting. This does not including drying time.

I have been asked many questions about my mounting location and have been criticized about how I made the face stick out. If you look closely at the pictures you can see how the back of the screen just kisses the temp control panel and is tilted back slightly. When I was laying out the mount I extended the screen and tilted it back to a comfortable viewing position (I am tall) if the screen was any farther back the screen was vertical or slightly tilted forward, I got glare during the day and graying of the screen because of the angle. Look closely at the pics - the angle is perfect for me and that is why it is leveled out with the trim.

Hope you enjoy of the pics. I will have more of the finished stereo in a week when I have time to post them, and hopefully will be able to find the VSS wire by the end of the week.

I think few people appreciate true craftsmanship when it comes to custom work like I see in you car. It is two easy to go out and buy products and then just put them in you car. But to take the time in customize the products to you application is true art.
Keep up the good work

i love the rims to

Nice setup Abrams!! N1 Owners unite....!! Haha ...Just kidding.

Looks good man! I agree with Linner, props on doing it yourself. I should have just did my install myself too, I ended up going in and cleaning up a bunch of the wiring on my install anyway. I had a so called "professional" do it and they didnt' even hook up my reverse or VSS wires. The main reason I took it to them was to find the VSS wire, that I couldn't locate. So I was pissed when they couldn't find it either. I should have known!
Hope you find the VSS wire man, no one seems to be able to locate it in our car yet.

One last Q. Abrams, How do you like that Injen intake?

It is a lot louder than stock?

I love the intake, it does not really provide much power, but i just love the way it sounds. It is much louder than the stock intake, but the stock intake really has no sound to it. Nothing can compare to my old Cobb Tuning CAI that i had in my 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS though.

I was just wondering if you have any side shots of your install. I am just curious to see how the angle of the screen looks.

can all the N1 owners unite and post pictures of there AVIC-N1. I have herd a lot of talk about height, angle, and position but seen very few pics. Could more people post finished products and how removable is what people are doing. If you go to sell the car are you going to be able to remove the headunit or will you be stuck with a big hole in the dash?

Hey Abrams,

No problem. I took some pics before and posted them. Then it looks like the pics got deleted from Photobucket.com so they are gone from that other thread. I'm planning on borrowing my boyz digital camera and taking some better ones. I will make sure to get a side shot for you!

The angle is about a 90-95 degree angle when looking at it from the side. It sits very close to the AC controls. That is one thing I like about your setup is that you have more clearance between the back of the screen an the A/C controls. Good Stuff man !!

As for the other question about being to take it out:
Yes mine can be taken out. I have actually taken apart the install a few times to run some more of my wiring and clean up some things. It does leave a big hole since I cut into my existing storage bin, so I would need to buy a new storage bin. It costs $50-70 bucks.

dang .. i like abram's angle yet i like tsx536's install .. blah!

Tsx536 .. how tall are you? i'm 5-5ish .. how do you like your angle? can't you pull the deck out a bit further to get the angle you want through adjusting the mounting posistion?

Abram .. since you have great angle clearance .. ever thought of moving the deck up a bit higher .. looks like you have neough room for that.

Honestly, I have not thought about it at all. I think the setup is perfect because I can rest my hand on the shifter and control all the buttons on the headunit if I want. But, the main reason that I put it at that position is so I would be able to see and have access to the temperature controls without having to put the face down.

Here is how to post pics- use the search tool.

Sup guys,

I was worried I couldn't see it when I first got the car back from the shop. But after turning on the screen on I realized that I can see the screen perfectly fine. No problems reading it at all or seeing video at all. In fact I watched the baseball game all the way home on my commute tonight!! The Pioneer LCD on this deck is just a really good one...no mattter what angle you look at it you can see it well.

I'm really happy with my install and I'm sure Abrams really likes his too. The only thing I don't quite like about his install is how far the deck sticks out from the rest of the center console. It makes it a little easier for people walking by to see the deck and I was kinda worried about that. I'm also a little scared that I would accidently hit the screen with my hand while Sport shifting or whatever.
Abrams install does have some advantages though. It is really cool how far of an angle he can put his screen. and also his access to the temperature controls. I can only access the fan up and down, the mode, and the A/C buttons. I don't really use the climate control, so the temp controls aren't a big deal for me, but I wish I could hit the OFF switch!
There are pros and cons to both install so it's just a matter of preference. Until the dash kit to replace the factory deck comes out there is no ideal mounting location.

To answer your questions AsianPersusian...I'm 5'10"...so I'm a little taller than you. I can bring the deck out further if I want, but I can see the screen well, so I'm leaving it there. You live kinda around my area and you can see my install sometime if you want. I have everything hooked up and I just need to install that VSS wire. Shouldn't be too hard now though since Abrams found the harness and posted pics...Good shit Abrams!!

tsx536 good info

abram .. this is a constructive opinion .. not flame .. but on the upper portion of your custome deck mounting bracket ... the gap between above the deck and below the climate. If you redesign the upper wood portion to fit .. your set up will rock even more!

Both of you guys .. GREAT JOB!

the door piece was double taped onto the top portion where that blue light is. The unit is sitting on a plastic plate i mounted inside, and it is attached to the plate by those double sided tape that you use for sealing speaker boxes....i dont know what they are called...Its pretty sturdy too
