Finally stepped up to the big times...kinda
I finally finished my system "build". Ive been buying everything over time and i got a decent deal on the sub...barely used from a friend. This was my first box that i built and its tuned to around 32-33 Hz....which after reading a little more on forums i probably should have gone a little higher...but once again im sort of a n00b at this stuff. I have 4 gauge running from the battery back to the distro block. I am using my old profile amp to run my speakers since its a two channel. I bought an AQ1200d to run the HDC312(i know this sub can take way wayyyyy more, but thatll happen in the future perhaps ) The sub sounds extremely clean compared to my old system and it gets very loud...by my standards. I wanted to keep some trunk space as this is my daily driver. I also placed my amps there because i wanted them hidden and didnt want them mounted to the box. I did clean up the wires and tucked them away so it is cleaner. Enough with the book heres the pics
Amp "board"
did most of the big three i wasnt able to get to the alternator when i was doing it...lights dont dim anymore though and im sitting at 14.3 volts at idle.
i love where the tweeters are mounted on the 1.5 gen RL's...thats why i put them there.
this is what i came from

Looks like you have a Pioneer 3100DVD. Are you using it to power your door speakers? I have a 3200 being delivered and was curious of your impressions.
Good job on the self-install. It's satisfying.

I was, it did a decent job but nothing compared to having an amp on them. I do love my stereo though. If you can run an amp with it...youll be amazed.

Pioneer TS-A components? I used those in a setup in a buddy's truck and I'm very pleased how they came out. I'm liking the tweeter placement as well, nice.
As for the HDC3's tuning, yeah most people will recommend 38-40hz when working with that sub. Personally, I've heard a couple 15s tuned at 35hz and they absolutely killed the lows. Tuning is all a matter of personal choice though. If you like it at 32hz, then leave it in that box. I'm not sure where you're at, and I wish I would've seen this before last night because I just burnt a box for a single 12: 2.25 cubes tuned at 36hz. Would've been an interesting replacement for your current one.

on1wheel01- i know it looks terrible...its rattle canned but i wasnt even planning on painting it but at the last minute i decided to paint it.
mattastick- yes they are pioneer ts-a components and i was extremely pleased with them over the stock and for the price i think it was a great deal. The box is about 2.5 cubes and is around 32Hz. I do like lows but i also love ear drop blowing volume. whyyyyy would you burn a box??? But then again if your serious i guess you just have boxes laying around...my friend has 2 boxes just laying in his garage.

I had 4 boxes chilling in the garage taking up space. So I burnt 2 of them last night and now I still have 2 of them just chillin in the garage being used as tables, more or less. 1 is birch for my 2 10s, so I'd like to keep that one as long as possible, and the other has a plexi window in it that I'm too lazy to cut out of it. It really wouldn't be that hard, but I'm lazy and don't feel like doing it.

i wish i had the space for that! But we do have a woodshop so i guess its a trade off. Ive been thinking about building another box but i dont seem to have the time with work and such. i want to cover the box with vinyl or something and maybe make a decent amp rack

Where in the country are you located? I know of several good box builders around the country. Hell, AQ even lists box builders they trust on their site (link: http://www.audioque.com/aq/?page_id=207). So if you need a new box build, I'd start there. Personally, I have a good buddy up the road that builds a lot of boxes (Doug Roosa in Dayton, OH) who I head to if I need a box built. I was actually up at his place today helping him up with his new amp (AudioQue 20k) and clamping the power out of the thing. It's sick. Huge power from an absolutely massive amp.

Mike Strass is up in Chicagoland somewhere, and he knows what he's doing with AQ products. He's running 4 15" HDC3A's in an Altima walled off with 8 3500D's powering them. It's absolutely sick... I'd get in touch with Mike if you wanted a new box. He'll take care of you.

aww snap...i saw a video of that altima i think. He was at a show at Sudden Impact and my friend was there...he got to sit in it and said it was just disgusting how loud it wass.

Yeah, Mike's Altima is nuts. Last time I actually got to sit inside, he was only running 4 amps and was having some voltage issues. Now he's got 8 amps in there and the voltage is supposedly solid. I don't really believe it, since he's only got 1 270A alt, but whatever.
He's definitely the guy to help you out with AQ setups in Chicago. Just ask any of the guys wearing the Team DOA hats at shows around there. Or look at their setups. Mike's built most of them...

Alright, as I said in my previous post I was planning on redoing some stuff. I built a new box, its about 2.3 cubes after displacement and its tuned to 36 hertz. I love how this box sounds. It defiantly gets louder than my old box but it still gets the lows. I lined the trunk with peel and seal(i know there are way better products, but i had nothing before) and it sounds 1000 times better. I built the floor so everything was level and so i could access the spare tire if need be. I also have more trunk space than before. Now where to go from here.... enough ranting heres pics!

Oh, there are plenty of places to go in the audio game from where you're at... All kinds of front stage options, crazier enclosure designs, etc...
New box is looking good too. You could've even raised the tuning a bit up to around 39-40hz with those subs and still been pretty solid on the lows.

If i buy a new car next year I want to keep this one and just turn it into an audio car. Maybe a wall in the back seat or something else crazy. I think a new 4 channel is the next on the list.

Ordering new comps for up front tonight...along with 100 feet of speaker wire. Going to run all new wiring to simplify things when i get a new 4 channel. Does anyone have any recommendations for a decently priced 4 channel? I was thinking the AQ amp, because i have issues with having things match.

Yah I should have rounded off the edges. Well see maybe in a month or two..its been hotter than hell here in chicago and it doesnt make for a pleasant day. Ill probably just round off all the edges on this box and repaint it as I like how this box sounds. What did you coat your box in?

lol yea but man did it slam. I did the entire build. Sold him the sub Fi btl loaded 18"=$375, saz1500d $315, box build $175. And he's doin a 147.5 on music at the dash on the tl. Also he's dropping into the 10's with voltage. So i imagine it will be better if he buys my battery. I made such a large port for that wow factor when he pops the hatch. 00 tahoe on 24's pretty nice truck.

A pair of Tru Bass Ultra 8's... Should do pretty well on 1kw or so... Unfortunately, UPS has decided to be extremely gay. I ship something to CA, it takes 3 days. I ship something to Colorado, it takes 4 days. Guy in Colorado ships something to me, it takes a week... FML

Nice amp. I ran a couple strapped on my 10s for a show. Ran pretty hot, but it was hot as hell outside that weekend. They'll burp at .25 ohms nominal (rising to .5 each), fyi. Very solid amps.

Yeah, just like I said I was done with audio. Now I've got 2 8's on the way to me now (somewhere between here and Colorado) to put in the Acura in ~3-4 days before a meet... Gonna be a good time...
