f*ckin Ipod doesn't work with alpine

with Alpine interface adapter KCA-420i

Anyone have any ideas?

The manual says:

"An ipod with a touchwheel or scroll wheel is not compatbile with the dock connector, and therefore cannont be connected to the adapter

The adapter does not support software versions prior to Ipod update 2004-04-28."

I understand the second one - so I updated the software today: 4.7.1, but what does the first one mean? Don't all the ipods (except for mini?) have a touchwheel? wtf. My only guess is that becasue i bought my Ipod in Dec 2003, it's too old and I need to get a new ipod 2004 or later, regardless of software.

damn wasted my money

*The KCA-420i is compatible with any iPod , iPod Photo and iPod mini with dock conector and iPod Update 2004-04-28. Go to the iTunes site to download the latest iPod software.

You sure? cause I think- I figured it out. The Alpine KCA-420i manual page 13 Information, says An ipod with a touchwheel or scroll wheel is not compatible with the dock connector, and therefore cannont be connected to the adapter. I went to Apple's website and found this:

My Ipod was bought in 2003 and is a touchwheel. So it appears from the manual that only 2004 click wheels and later are compatible. I do have the latest Ipod software - downloaded it a month ago and did it again today to make sure. I guess this is a little detail Alpine forgot to mention.

I'm gonna borrow my friends new ipod and see if it works. I may have to sell mine and get a new one.

If anyone has an older ipod pre 2004 (per the list) and it works, let me know. Thanks!

Jonesi - good looking out...I was mixing up upgrading the Itunes software and upgrading the IPOD software.

It works now.

How do you like the interface so far?
Does the alpine interface work pretty well with your Ipod?
