Extra input on stock BOSE system...

I'm planning on building an .MP3 player for my 1997 CL and wanted to know if there is any way for me to put in an external audio source into the BOSE system (such as a CD changer). The audio source would be the line out of my computer's sound card...

Thanks,

MontrealCL

The Bose head unit in the 01 CL does have a CD changer input, Crutchfield sells one for it. Maybe they will eventually have an MP3 player, also.

I hate to answer your question with a question, but maybe someone knows...

I've seen threads talking about adding a subwoofer by splicing off the signal lead before it gets to the factory amp. I know Sony makes a A-B input switch for car stereos. Could we simply install this switch before the factory amp and switch back and forth between the factory radio and our external source? Does anyone know if this will screw up the factory amp?

It wont.. i have done it. I used the wiring diagrams from the Helm manual.

http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001505.html

I used radio shack switches to swtich between external source and factory unit. But you must keep the factor head unit on for the amp to stay on. So even though the factory headunit will be playing you wont hear anything from it unless you are on that selection on the audio switch.

It worked really well but the problem was i had to go in the trunk to change back to the factory unit. So if i was to do it again i might use an RF modulator even though i would loose some sound quality.

As far as exactly what i did was i spliced into 8 wires going into the amp (1 + 1 - per speaker). Ran the (from headunit side) to input 1 and the (into amp side) into the output. Then i had 2 more in put i could plug into the switch. Of course the number will varry from switch to switch.

All in all sound quality was awesome but it was a pain to to go into the trunk to change between sources. Any more questions feel free to ask

Okay, this sounds like it might be promising. The a-b switch I have has a remote toggle on-off switch that switches between sources. From whay you're saying it sounds like the amp accepted the signal from the alternative source, it was the fact that you had to go to the trunk to press the switch button that was why this didn't work. Am I understanding you correctly? I don't care if the factory head unit is on all the time...

I just got back from the stereo shop on my lunch break and the dude there was saying that it's possible that the stock bose amp won't like the input voltage or whatever of whatever device I plug in. I'm wanting to plug in my portable minidisc player, what kind of device did you try?

Just spent the afternoon spicing rca plugs onto all the signal inputs on the stock amp, installed my a-b switch and everything works great. Installed the switch under the dash and now all I have to do is flip it and whatever I have plugged into the auxillary input plays great! Thanks for the input.

I bought it a couple of years ago from a stereo shop in Austin. It's about 3"x2"x1/2". It's just a small box with 8 inputs on one side (2 front 2 rear for each source) and 4 outputs on the other. All the switching is done internally, and you can actually hear it click when it changes over.
