Dumb component questions..

What do you guys with 2G TL's do for components?

Are there any component speakers where the tweeter would be inside the woofer? I have a 2002 TLS and I'd have to cut holes somewhere up on the door panels to get the tweets there. I'm nervous about that.. And if so, is there any point to having components together or would that defeat the purpose?

There are "components" that are together. They're called co-axial speakers. They're pretty pointless. The good thing about separate components (or separates as they're sometimes called) is that you can separate the tweeter from the mid driver, and the external crossover.

I love my components, i angle mounted my tweets on the black panel that covers where mirrors bolt to the door, but your best bet if your serious about SQ is to get u some kick panels custom made!

Separating the mid from the tweeter isn't what makes a component set better. The advantage is that they have a much better crossover. The crossover is the heart of any speaker and will often times cost more than the individual speakers themselves. You can find a good coaxial speaker with an outboard crossover, or even a component set with the option to pole mount the tweeter. Some of my favorites for doing this are the Diamond Audio D6 components. But keeping the tweeter close to the midrange is always a good idea.

I'm pretty serious about sound and I'm not doing kick panels. But then I don't think they are as helpful as people think. If you want to see my reasons for this, then check this thread out. Go to page two for a detailed explanation about kick panels.

Doing kick panels brings the soundstage together much better than just putting your speakers in the doors and is a big reason why kickpanels are used over and over in car audio competitions and actually soundstage is a judging criteria many of the time. Also kickpanels usually keep the woofer and tweeter mounted closer to eachother which makes it seem like the same source. Im not talking about those Q-logic kickpanels either, im talking about custom made ones that are designed for the speaker like these ones we have Diamond D6s in

I'm fully aware of what kick panels are. Go to the link I posted above and you will see a technical explanation on why I don't think kick panels are worthwhile.

Hmmm, my link above didn't go to the right place. Sorry about that. Here is the correct link: http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~61864~PN~1~TPN~1

Remember, the section specifically on kick panels is on page two of that thread.
